Macro or Supermacro

Hi there, I hope you are all well. I have a quick question for you all. No doubt you all know a lot more about digital cameras/photography than I do so my question is this :
I own a sony cybershot DSC-T70, this has two macro modes : MACRO and SUPERMACRO. This is a new camera to me so bear with me please. What is the difference between the two? Is super macro mainly for ULTRA close ups (i.e. for insects?) and not suitable for capturing miniatures? Or would it be more suitable?
And another thing, what ISO level should I set it to, or is this completely dependant on the amount of light I have when taking the picture? Thanks a lot for your time!

Hi

First off, you should use the lowest ISO setting possible, so for your camera that would be 100 or 80. You should of course make sure you have a well illuminated model to use these.

Regarding the macro, both macro settings should be suitable for minis, I guess it just depends upon the model size! The best thing to do would be to experiment; Set up a miniature and try different settings.

Great, thanks for that Orb. I will take some test shots of a mini now and see where that gets me. Illuminating the model right is the most difficult part I find. Thats because I only have one lamp you see and my setup is pretty poor. Bought myself a gorillapod though so hopefully that might help out a bit! Cheers!

Agreed. If you want to get the most from your camera investing in some decent lighting (don\'t have to be photographic lights) will pay dividends, either a homemade or a commercial diffusing tent would be well worth the money too.

It\'s not a great solution but you could try taking shots outside on overcast days - excellent diffused light and it\'s plenty bright enough often.

dunno where you\'re located Majestic but there\'s only one thing better than a top-end lighting rig with daylight bulbs and diffusers and so on and that\'s a sunny day.

Just take the mini outside when the sun is at either 10 or 2 o\'clock in the sky and snap away... that\'s where they got the idea for daylight bulbs from I think.
