I found it a very boring film, likewise the Maltese Falcon, which I was hoping would be much better

Understandable. Actually more of a B-grade action type film follwer myself - and Bogart made a couple of those as well. But, having said that I do like Casablance - and am really horrified that Madonna has the chutzpa to want to remake it.
