i think you should blend the base scale color to tie the sheme in together. id hilight the spines a LOT,and make it look almost like bone ( like a weathering effect).

Hi funnymouth, when you say to blend the base scale color, do you mean the large ones on the dragon's belly, neck, and tail? Sorry if I don't seem to understand. I'm still very inexperienced at painting. :(

I'm also looking to make the spines look like bone, and my first attempt wasn't very good. I'd have to give it another go. Pics of the new attempt will be posted later.

Update: 032110

Here's what I have done so far. The skin is black with splashes of Lich Purple/Leviathan purple mix and Regal Blue/Lich Purple mix. I tried some kind of blending with the membrane on the wings. My "client" isn't looking for anything GD-winning, but he likes what he's seeing so far. I'd say the dragon will be done in a few days. :)

That's pretty nice. The membrane blending is a very nice idea. I'd suggest you some highlights on the tongue and the eyes.

Hi all, here's a small update:

Face has been cleaned up a bit but I'm not very happy with the teeth yet.

I'm thinking of painting the body spikes, talons and wing tips a mix of Dwarf Bronze and Burnished gold.

Cheers!

Nice. For the teeth, I think you could add some degradation, like food rests or blood if you want him to look rough.

Wow that looks awesome now it's finished :)

When I first saw the initial model I hated it and wondered how it could be made to look good, well you answered that question! A much better pose and a very good conversion :) I like the colour scheme to
