Well, I only know MtG but let me tell you: you\'ll spend less money if you buy every miniature you\'ll see and like!

Otherwise an excellent game.
I stopped playing years ago because of the constant \"need\" to buy more and more cards.

I\'ve been playing MtG with the same decks for years. It\'s still great fun. Don\'t know much about other card games. Tried the 40k one, but found it a bit too involved and difficult to get into

Well, yeah, if you don\'t want to spend money! But can you really stop buying minis? Can you? :)

Padding your posts are we :p?

I used to play Magic a lot (pure red gobbo deck, fun but hard to play :p) but stopped when I went to the University. I tried Bloodwar a while back. It takes place in the D&D Plainscape univers. It was pretty good (rule and fluff wise) but I haven\'t heard much of it in a while. The last CCG I played was the WH40K one and the Horus Heresy one. The game mechanics are pretty stream lined and the fluff is pure 40K.

I think the important part in a CCG is the fluff. Except for a few twist most of the different rules are moe or less clones : you\'ve got ressources, troupes, events/psy/magic, ... What\'s going to make you play and by more is the artwork and the creativity put into the cards IMHO. Oh and having friends who play the game can help too . That\'s why Magic worked so well. Most CCG have at least one Magic Deck.

We all play Magic it is the only ccg we play.Todd calls it gamers crack.
We have many many cards...30,000 or so and you can never have too many.

I find it relaxing and a good way to wind down after a bad day.
We love it and if at night I am not painting, Todd and I are often playing.

1/2 man and Becca as well play.
We have mini tournaments on the weekends.

IMHO You need to get duel lands is my battle cry...makes for better options got them last year as my Christmas wish...Right now I play a beast deck.

Guess I would highly suggest them ;) The new expansion is very good.

I called it the arms race. If you want to be competitive, you need about 2 boxes of every release as they come out and have to keep culling out the stuff that is not in the current tourament legal. It got to where it was not worth it.

As a game, the idea is great as is the play. Sold off my stuff a few years back and financed my daughter\'s braces.

i used to play MtG about a couple of years ago. i had a Green Red Beast deck. it was fun but the thing that turned me off was the constant updating of cards when a set got rotated out of standard play. i still have my deck but i only play casually. not a good win-loss record though... :D

I played it shortly after it came out - before card condoms.

It was a fun mindless blow-off game and I liked the fact that my random deck (starter deck + 1 booster pack and 1 \"antiquities\" stack: total $12) with no trading would win at least 50% of the time over my roommate who had spent $300+ crafting his deck.
Basically too random for my taste: the only skill seemed to be in how you spent your money.

I was put off by the frequent early rule changes though, particularly as they stripped my mana drain and volcanic island cards of much of their power.

Never played any other CCG games. Star Wars passed through my hand but didn\'t look very good, and I love the Pokemon cartoon but doubt the game lives up to it.

Collected the cards from Unlimited until Mirage then stopped.

Buy the occassional premade deck and play with family for fun.

Very good game but far too expensive to keep up with seriously!

I never got into Magic as it was one of the games in the mid 90\'s that put a hurting on the miniature industry for a while. Everyone went to it cause it was a fast and easy game to play.. At Partha mini sales dropped big time. Put a lot pf people out of work and companies even closed down.

But.. eventually CCGs brought a lot of new people into the hobby and they eventually discovered miniatures and that why I think were seeing a increase in the popularity of miniature games and just painting miniatures..so I guess it was good for the hobby in the long run.

I play it online sometimes and yeah it looks to be pretty expensive chasing the \'right\' cards for your deck but I only play it casually and have enough success with cheap decks (playing a goblin deck atm). As a game I really like it.

magic is fun, I have never bought a card in my life, but a friend of mine figured a cheep and fun alternative which I really like.

He sorted and imput all his cards into a program he wrote, then this program will randomly generate \"sealed\" decks for you with the approprate mix of common/uncommon/rares. So we would always have sealed deck tournaments without ever spending a cent and just reusing his big pile of cards.

I really hate the idea of a game where you can only really be a good as the money you spend on your deck, so naturally a sealed deck situation was really the only way I ever wanted to play. Come on, playing 3 colors with no duel lands :D

That\'s my take on it, I\'m sure there are those that love the collecting aspect of it, I even had a friend who spent tons putting together those professional top ranked decks. and then when he played them he either just won with a challenge (no fun), or if he lost, was left bitching about one thing or another why his $2000+ deck was skrewed over by some random thing...

I do not think you have to spend a load of money to have cards. If you wish to chase the shiny ones I guess so.

I bought a dealers stock as he left the trade Through ebay and it was no where near the thousands really less than a few hundred for 20,000 cards. We kept those fr the family. I have bartered for others and sold on ebay it is a viable item there. We very rarely buy or need more just birthday and Christmas.

I guess to me it is like miniatures I can collect a bunch for cheap or I can collect a few for plenty.
And compared to video games it is much more thought provoking than many and more challenging. I would rather see Half man building a deck then with the controls in his hand for Nintendo.

Tab, you crack me up!

Yeah, I played Magic. I started just a little after they came out. It was a LOT of fun, depending on who you
played with. Man, have I got stories.<G>

I had -we\'ll say- in the thousands of cards. I was the biggest collector of Serra Angels you\'ll ever meet. At one
point I believe I had over 500…the exact number escapes me now.

The only things I didn\'t like about it were the CONSTANTLY changing rules and \"errata\"; and the problem with
playing against people who spent tons of money to build their uber-deck. I used to cheese people off big time
by beating them with my 200-300 card decks, while they were playing with streamlined 60-card minimum decks
to maximize their card-drawing potential.<EG>

Eventually, my friends and I got MORE into rpgs than the ccgs…so we decided to quit. Sold my collection (most)
on eBay; gave some to my friend\'s son who was just starting into it. Man, you should\'ve seen the look on his
face when he got those cards…priceless.

Good times, but it can be addictive and costly, depending.

ooh, the best time was college, being very intoxicated trying to play at 3am.

You\'d say \"I block with my....\" look around and can\'t find the creature, and figure it had been killed, you just didn\'t remember, only to find it on the floor 3 days later

can you tell I\'m a hardcore player :D

I also remember when wizards had a lot of web support for magic on their site, interviews and bios of top magic players. My favorite quote about the game from some guy who was ranked #1 at the time in the world was \"there are no good or bad plays in magic, just the correct play, or blunders\"
