Magnetized and Electrified Rhino

Well, I did quite a bit of painting over the weekend. The exterior is more or less done. The main colour is naturally ultramarines blue, while the shadows are regal blue. I highlighted the edges first with a mix of ultramarines blue and space wolves grey and finally with pure space wolves grey. I tried some colouring of the metal with some washes of purple and green. Not sure whether it works.

I'm still thinking about a name for the rhino. So the name tag is still empty.

The tactical arrow was cut out from thin plasticcard. By that means it stans out more and is easier to paint at the same time.

I'm still struggling whether to try some weathering since I don't want to ruin my paint job. Maybe I finish it first and then try on some less visible places. Any thoughts on that?

Magnetized and Electrified Rhino: Lighted up!

Nice, I like your freehands. Maybe just add some writings on the parchments.

Yeah, that's another point on my todo-list. By the way: Is there any tip for those writings except for using a fine brush?

I didn't do much painting yesterday, but I took some timem to make some fotos of the lighted up rhino.
So firdt the interior lighting:

The yellow position lights at the front side are a bit too weak. Next time I need to use some stronger LEDs there. But the Cockpit-Lights do their job quite well.

In contrary the headlights nearly blind you when looking straight at them. But at least they're also visible in daylight that way ;)

Finally a little atmospheric shot:

You also have to dilute your paint and you can have inspiration from your writing software.

Since I was busy with taking my motorbike for a first ride of the season, there was not so much painting done over the weekend. Just finished a couple of small parts. The blending on the lenses worked out quite well, but I'm not so sure about the metal. I tried to give it some colour with different washes, but somehow it looks simply used.

very very cool love the lighting efffects bril job. re the writing on the purity seals etc i use a cocktail stick with a tiny amount of chaos black and just dab the point lightly across the surface (cheaper than the pen)
#24 there seems to be some light leakage from the front plate armout you might have sealed it off but just in case.

Actually the front plate is onl held in place with four small amgnets (two at the top and two at the bottom). You can see the holes where the magnets are placed on the top of this page. This allows acces to the battery if I ever need to change it.
But for this picture it was obviously not perfectly in place. I only noticed it while putting the pictures uo here. But thanks for the hint anyway.

I'll give the different methods for painting the scripture a try (first on a piece of sprue) and then decide which one works best for my clumsy hands ;)

I'm still practicing with the scripture. Didn't dare yet to ruin my model ;)

Well it's been quite a while since my last update. I've been quite busy at work and my military service did also interfere with my painting. But finally there is some progress:

I painted the crew of the rhino.

I also applied the decals to the Rhino and gave it a name. Well it's not that imaginative, but since it's from 2nd company I gave it one of the sqquad names from the codex:

Here I'll show you some of the possible configurations with all the magnetized parts.

If you want to try a quick and dirty weathering technique that works well, then the Mig Rust and Earth pigments do a very good job even applied dry without their medium (Dave has a bunch of tanks he used em on). Turned out really nice. After coating with a matt varnish the color changes to something a little darker... the good thing about the pigments is unless you fix em with varnish or some other way, you can wash em off.

Thanks for the encouraging responses.
@Chern Ann: Yes, I read about them already, but they seem quite expensive. But maybe they're worth the money. I will see how far I get with the conventional methods and if I'm not pleased with the result I'll try the pigments.

I played around with different techniques on the unused top hatch for the Razorback.

The grill was washed with devaln mud, graveyard earth and Vermin Brown. Further I did some scratches with Mithril Silver at the edges. Finally I tried to get some dried mud splashes by applying dilluted Scorched Brown.
HPIM3306-1.jpg

On the other side I tried to create deeper scratches by using chaos black and finishing with Mithril Silver. The "exhaust vent" is drybrushed with Chaos Black and touched up with some Mithril Silver (Actually I'm not so pleased how this turned out). On the right I tried some drybrushing with a mixture of catachan green and scorched brown with some streaks of Mithril Silver. This looks a bit more "swampy". Finally on the left i did some dabbing with scorched brown and added some spots of Dark Flesh.

Any comments or tipps?
