Making a base for Alice in Wonderland

I\'m making a base for the Alys with her pussy cat model made by Hasslefree miniatures. I\'m using a 40mm round GW base.

I think the base should be quite simple to suit the Alice in Wonderland theme. I was thinking of just having a mound that\'s flocked and a small watery area along one side. However, I can\'t figure out how to do nice looking water! Please could someone give me some pointers!

If anyone\'s got any easy suggestions for themed things I could put on the base as well that\'d be great. Thanks!

Pete did a freehand card on her base and it came out wonderful:

But for water effects, use

http://www.woodlandscenics.com/

Click \"landscaping\" then \"water\" and look at Realistic Water or Water Effects. The first is thin like Elmer\'s glue and self leveling. The second is thicker and will hold some swirls and wave shapes.

Underpaint it, put it on thin and let dry. If you use the thin stuff, you have to build a tape dam to hold it until it cures.

i\'m with airhead - woodland scenics is great stuff. mind you, if you are only doing it on this mini, pva/white glue would work. as would clear yacht varnish

Thanks for the tips. The base I was making turned out horribly, so I\'ve changed my plan. I think I\'ll have her on a tiled floor. I aim to do this by cutting grooves in plasticard to delineate the files, and then paint patters onto the individual \"tiles\". I\'ll post pics when I get some down (which could be a while, as I\'ve going back to uni on Sunday, so have to pack, unpack, etc.).

How about a chessboard? Along the lines of your tile idea. 20-25mm square in the center of the base with the 8 surrounding tiles going off the sides. There was a huge board in that movie somewhere wasnt there? It\'s a little fuzzy, been a while since I\'ve seen it.
