Making people think...

OK, I as I've said in the past I'm lucky as I get to see, and approve, a lot of good stuff before most of you.
This morning is no exception.

In the awaiting approval section was a diorama, something I enjoy looking at, this one particularly captured my attention as it's really thought provoking. Being unable to make it out fully from the thumbnail, I had to open it and needed to scroll down to read the text. I'm glad I did!

The text is simple and just an explanation of certain aspects of the diorama and as such gives the viewer the ability to interpret the diorama in so many way.
So without further ado:

by Mamageek.

Go look and I'd ask you to vote NOT on the first looking but after contemplation and going back for a second viewing, because to me this HITS the criteria of being COOL.

Ah yes - I saw this pop up on the Reaper forums. Always glad to see someone tackle serious issues in our medium, even if it is (especially if it is) contentious or provocative.

Living in China for over 10 years, the situation improved a lot, but still far from a idyllic situation... Now there is a big effort to bring into their education system. the change is happening but is much slower than the country growth and global change... which scares me about the future of China.

The diorama is good and I like the story it is telling, will show it to my wife without the bottom text to see her reaction.

Even without the description, the political ramifications are obvious, but I think it is all those little hidden details that show how well thought out it is. I also like how the on light source effects are not over the top affairs and make the whole diorama that much more realistic. Kudos to ya, MamaGeek!
(I'm basically copying this to comments on mini pic 'cause I'm a Taoist [read: lazy] at heart)

I'm blown away by the tremendous positive reaction the work has gotten. Thank you.

And most especially thank you to the tireless men and women around the world who fight every day for the basic human rights that so many of us take for granted. Just to name a few: Jin Zhong, Chen Guangcheng, Liu Xiaobo, Ai Wei Wei, Baiqiao Tang, Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, Ali Abdulemam, Manal al-Sharif, and many, many more.

No, I think our thanks should go to you.
Using this hobby to remind us that we are fortunate to live in relative security and tolerance is a fine thing.

We do need an occasional "Kick in the Pants" to remind us that there is more to this world than our somewhat self absorbed pastime.

I've always thought that the Diorama is the pinnacle of this hobby, and it's things like this that reinforce that idea.

To be honest it's the incredible thought behind this that is the most impressive.

I broke my closet mini painting and 'came out' so I could share this on facebook, just to powerful to leave in our little corner of the internet.
