Making Smoke

Here\'s something I need help with. I need to create smoke trails (such as the type a rocket would make). I\'ve seen smoke made with painted cotton, but does anyone have any specific suggestions? The only requirements are that I\'d like it to be darkly colored and it must be reasonably durable. Thank you in advance.

Try some Wire wool, grade 000. This should be available from good hardware stores. (It\'s used for finishing off when sanding wood & is handy for burnishing pewter based figures. [Large areas only!!])
Pull a chunk off and then tease out to create a thin trail. Prime black & hey presto.
Not perfect, but in certain circumstances and not over used will look right.

One work of warning this stuff burns like MAD so watch out for naked flames. Back in my Scouting days we actually used it for tinder on a damp foggy day. Took the hairs off the back of my hand it was that quick.

I have used the stuffing for stuffed animals for this sort of thing before. It is much easier to shape than cotton balls and I believe it would be easy to find a bag that would last a long time.
