Malifaux midnight theme, log

Hi folks, I have recently got into malifaux along with some of the guys over at Golem painting studio and have been having a lot of fun painting the fantastic miniatures Wyrd have produced. I started paint my Lucas mcabbe crew in a midnight theme as I thought the setting would suit the wayward gentlemen look of the crew. I decided to do a decent job of them painting wise, so far I have two miniatures painted for that crew as of yet, but I wanted to get some more miniatures painted quicker to get on the board and play some games, so I decided to stick with the midnight theme and simplify it for the rest of the guild faction.

I am personally rather chuffed with the result, mainly as it was one of the funnest painting experiences I have had so far in my hobby. It gave a great opportunity to explore a different style to what im used to and also to really think about composition of light and dark and also contrast between colour intensity, and contrast of detail.

so without any further waffling, here are the two original wastrels in my slightly more advanced midnight theme, its from these that I have based the style of the faction. Though I will continue to paint lucas's crew to this quality, mainly as I really enjoy painting dudes in suits.

PS, I hope the photos shrink down after posting, if not could someone advise how best to shrink them for this forum, thanks.

Once I decided how I was going to simplify the paint scheme while keeping the theme, I got some more bases from DCB miniatures. it was relatively straightforward putting it into practice, here is the result of that in my lucius crew which is one of my favorite sets of miniatures, I think its that aristocratic look lucius and the air of corruption of Captain Dashel that does it for me.

Wonderful painting! To scale them down, bring them into paint and then resize and save. You can resize by percent or by pixel.

Nicely painted, the only things is that I would like the capes to become a little bit darker, perhaps use some glazes with Prussian blue (Very dark blue into the shadows..)

Your result is dark and gloomy figures that looks very nice. keep going.

Very nicely done, especially the two gentleman in particular. I've also recently been caught by the Malifaux bug, really like the characterful nature of their models. Especially the new boxed sets. I just had to get the new Hired Swords set, they look great. Look forward to seeing your work in the future. If you are interested there was a competition of Malifaux stuff over on WAMP (http://www.wamp-forum.com/VB4/forum.php) recently. Might be worth going and checking the entries, inspiration and all that, you know!

Meet the family

I have also got my Perdita crew finished so I thought I would throw up the photos and see what you all think. I really enjoyed painting this crew, the mexican posse look is rather cool and made me wanna pull out all my Clint Eastwood dvd's.

I must say that santiago is my favorite miniature in this crew, his model is so well sculpted it really was a joy to paint him.
