Maniac

Hi guys,

I have to say I have a lot of respect for this forum. It is one of my fondest places on the internet.

It took me a long time to realize that most of the personalities on here are, as I see it, genuine. At first I found it unlikely that there could be so many 'nice' men in one place and I thought it was phoney.
With several years life experience later I have realized that there are a lot of awesome people in the world, it is just, in my experience, you have to look quite far and wide to meet them.

What I am getting around to saying is that I am, in the most literal sense, kind of a maniac. In modern politically correct language we call that 'bipolar', although I do not swing between two poles and am pretty much wired all the time.

I have said some things on this forum which are quite mad but also aggressive. I cringe at a couple of posts which were particularly bad. The term mania is a Greek word for madness/rage. If you think of Macbeth or King Lear you have a good idea of what I can act like. Also the fact that internet forms an instant connection between ones brain and communication without any face to face interaction, you can see why I say outragous things sometimes.

Anyway, I regret any offense I have caused.

I'm not the figure painter that jokes about losing his sanity, I'm the one that painted half his figures this year in a sanitarium! Sad times :(

I can't help wondering what peoples perceptions on madness are. I blame my childhood/adolescent years. I'm building a life now that rocks and nobody knows I'm a maniac, can't help wondering if they'd see me differently. I have a friend from the past who's been completely unphased by my odd behaviour, but I don't know how anyone else would see it.

God bless and all that.

Not a problem at all. As Cass says, I've read a lot of posts you've made over the past year or so and haven't seen anything that shocked me. If you find you've posted something that you later regret saying, you just have to come back and apologise. The same would apply to anyone who did that, actually.

So, aye - stick around, please. I can't speak for anyone else here, but I'm happy to have you around. You give good advice and come across as a great guy :)

I blame most of it (not yours, but the site in general) on artists' temperament.

People have bad days and carry angst or anger over into other phases of their lives.
Some come here to vent.
Some come here to get away from something else.

I'm with the others never seen anything to cause offence.

Having been here a while........the forum has actually toned down a hell of a lot........I remember the good old days when there used to be some serious differs of opinion.

Threads getting locked at least once a week......paints being thrown around.......brushes poked in peoples eyes........one guy lost his leg to flying sprue. There was "RED GORE" (copyright by GW) all over the floor.

In other words stick around.....and don't mention gun laws ;)

Kudos for having the openess to tell people about your Illness.
UK stats indicate that one in three of US have a mental illness of some desciption and I'm one of them with bouts of depression.
Plus I've not seen anything worth giving you a heads up about and I'm the "Bad Cop".

How could anybody argue with someone with Chuck Norris as an avatar? :)
Easily.

My whole life I suffered from a variation on OCD called Tillotrichomania (compulsive hair pulling). I spent most of my life thinking that this strange compusion was unique. My father didn't understand, punishing me if he saw me absentmindedly tugging at my eyebrow or sideburn.

Fortunately, my case wasn't very severe (although it lasted longer than average). I learned what I had when I was in my late 30s, accidentally stumbling across it in the DSM IV. Literally millions of people have the disorder, including many whose compulsion is so severe that they hide their patchy hair in public. Compared to their issues, my behavior was hardly an issue.

The world is full of people with problems, hiding their issues lest they be thought different or strange.

Thanks for the support guys :)

I just wanted to say if anyone is having a rough time in life, feel free to pm me or email me anonymously for advice on how to cope.

Don't expect any soft answers though, you might as well be talking to a spartan so far as lifestyle is concerned! My prescription will be 100% based around aggressive sports!

THAT was intriguing... I've been tugging away at eyebrows, eyelashes and general facial hair for a very long time, to the extent that I need to wipe my desk once per day just because of all the hair... Now, I'm pretty sure it's just a bad habit of mine but that something like that could be worthy of a diagnose had never even crossed my mind...

Oh, and Montka? I'm one that has grown up with and spent more time together with "mentally unstable" people with varying diagnoses (Mom worked as a personal assistant for kids with varying kinds of Autism[mighty scary to see the young, cute and tender girl completely switch because of something seemingly random, get up, literally lift a plugged in stationary computer and throw it through the window and then spend the upcoming two days locked inside herself doing nothing but rocking back and forth on a chair...], my kid sis being one of them and I had several bipolar classmates in school. That said, I've had my fair share of "insane" people in my life and I wouldn't trade it or them for anything. Even though they needed help to be able to fit into this society it's still part of who they are and I've met a lot of wonderful people that have just happened to be on the "wrong" side of a diagnose.

I've actually never seen anything that has been offensive at all from you, the occasional vent, yeah, but mostly good advice and eh... "normal" behaviour. :)

Don't worry, we're all insane to some degree or another here, you're just one of us! :)

You are German? (reading your sig, i assumed) Any advice for a poor Scottish soul who is having a 'rough time' trying to integrate/get accepted into German society?

I also have some 'issues' regarding my mental health, a slight tendency to 'hit-the-drink' when stressed, other self-respect issues too (i blame a broken childhood). Dont worry about it mate, you are not alone.

Not noticed you misbehaving on 'ere mate !!!

I know what depression is like (I won't open the cupboard doors on my own personal experience, because its dark and grimy in there and I think there are spiders too...eeek) and I have seen several friends go through the same. I think it is something we all have in our lives at some point or another to varying degrees of severity. My experience was particularly bad for a number of years but I resolved it without help from anyone or anything but it was tough. My sister in law is Bi-Polar also and my brother has had to give up his whole working life to look after her, without going into too many personal details, it is as bad as it can possibly get with her condition. He cannot really leave her alone. And doctors are not always helpful when they change meds, treatments etc. She has good and bad patches.

But anyway, I would like to think the forums here are not only a place to share our work and the hobby with each other, but a place to share the good times and bad times also.

Bier und titten und Warhammer indeed - a sig to shout from the rooftops!
