Marauders using Citadel Washes

Hey guys, I wanted to share a pic of my Marauder test figure, painted almost entirely with Citadel Washes. My buddy Tom painted a Death Guard army in a very short time using nothing but white, Chainmail, and the new Washes, which got me thinking about doing my Chaos army almost the same way.

This model was painted by basecoating over a white undercoat, doing a few washes more or less straight out of the pot, reapplying the basecoat (or a similar color) as a hilight, and then doing a few more washes to bring it all together.

The first model took a couple hours since I had to plan my color scheme and get a feel for this technique, but clearly it\'s a simple but effective way to get army projects done. It\'ll only get faster as well, once I get the assembly line methods going.

If you want any \"recipes\" from the model, let me know. The only thing I don\'t really remember too well is the fur... I can\'t figure out what I drybrushed it with after washing it down. It\'s a shame too since I like how it turned out... I\'m gonna just assume it\'s Trollblood Hilight

Is there any chance that you could post the \"recipes\" for the various colours that you used.

how did you do the fur? lol just kidding. looks good. been playing around with that sort fo technique myself. it\'s amazing how quick you can get quite good results

I\'d go for a hybid approach to these. I like everything about this model (for a tabletop) except I think the flesh could use more attention. Either something simple like a small tatoo (Maybe using a mix of the washes?) or a stronger basecolor to ink over. Maybe 10 min work for each model, which isn\'t nuthin\' for sure, but I think I\'d be worth it. If this model was up for submission I would probably vote it a 5-6, but the extra flesh work would easily make it worth a 6 I think, which is a great standard for your RnF for an army.

Nice piece of work, especially given the length of time these guys will take to go from start to finish. For those looking at this fig I would like to point out how a great basing scheme like you\'ve done can make even a simple and easy paint scheme on a model look great.

experimenting with this my self and yes it\'s a fast and acceptable way of painting. I like what you have done here - only thing I find could benefit from some more attention is the skin, looks a little too pale for my liking.

I have a little text file where I jotted down some of the colors used on the model, I\'ll see what it has to say

Leather:
-Basecoat of Liche Purple + Gun Corps Brown
-Washes of Devlan Mud + Leviathan Purple, Purple, Asurmen Blue
-Tanned Flesh hilight

Boots:
-Basecoat of Fenris Grey
-Washes of Badab Black, Asurmen Blue + Devlan Mud, Leviathan Purple
-Fenris Grey + Desert Yellow hilight

Pants:
-Basecoat of Underbelly Blue + Hammerfall Khaki
-Washes of Devlan Mud and some other crap, I\'m changing the pants so you can ignore this is you like

Skin:
-Basecoat of Tallarn Flesh + Underbelly Blue + Hammerfall Khaki
-Wases of Ogryn Flesh + Leviathan Purple mixed
-Reapplied basecoat as hilight, then a glaze of the wash again

Silver:
-Chainmail
-Washes of Devlan Mud, Devlan Mud + Asurmen Blue mix, Leviathan Purple, I think there was a mix of Thraka Green + Asurmen Blue in there somewhere
-Feathered hilight of Chainmail

Gold:
-Basecoat of Burnished Gold
-Washes of Devlan Mud, Gryphonne Sepia + Leviathan Purple mixed
-Burnished Gold + Mithril Silver mix for hilight

Fur:
-Trollblood Hilight
-tons of washes, Devlan Mud, Mud + Asurmen Blue mix, Purple
-drybrush with Trollblood Hilight

Wood:
-Basecoat of Khemri Brown
-Washes of Mud, Mud + Blue mix

Weapon Wrappings:
-Basecoat of Trollblood Hilight
-Washes of Mud, Mud + Blue mix, Mud + Purple mix
-edge hilight with Trollblood Hilight

These guys will definitely get tattoos on about half of the models (you won\'t notice it on all of them, so I won\'t bother!) but I have to do some reasearch first to find designs that will look good, look Chaotic, and still be easy to do in this scale.

This is amazing and really inspiring! Thanks for posting, I\'m going to experiment a little with the new washes, and apply some of these techniques myself.

I also want to point out that the mini is probably supposed to be pale. Not too much sun up in those northern chaos wastes! lol

Yeah I can really recommend them as well. Try also mixing them into paints for easier blending.
