Hi all,

I just started painting my Thor model kit i've had sitting about for a while. I'm really looking for some feedback and some help with a certain part...I have no idea...how to do realistic stubble...especially blonde?

Let me know what you think and hope you like and i'm no pro so go easy on me :)

Thanks everyone

Good start. I would add a thin black line around the eyes to start.

OK Stubble, even blonde seems to come through slightly brown and lightens as it grows. You could mix some of your base skin colour with a brown and stipple iit on, as you get down under the face add a bit more brown to darken it to get it to look right.

To get the highlights to look right try lightening your base coat(not sure with what as I don't know what you're using) the paint it across the top of the forehead, on the bridge of the nose and slightly on the top of the cheeks.

Then darken your shade and thinly glaze in the shadows, around the eyes just above the eyebrows and in the indent under the cheek bones. I personally add a slight tint of purple and go back around the eye under the brow bone and in by the nose.

Very helpful, thank you so much, i'll follow that advice and post a further pic. Used Citadel Abaddon Black as undercoat. Then Vallejo Game Color Pale flesh as the base. i made a very very watery Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet (hate these new names) and flicked that over the base. Then used the same effect with Citadel Gorthor Brown. Then added some shade with the scarlet wash and highlighted with Vallejo Game Color Elfic flesh.

Ok so'll lighten up the Vallejo Pale Flesh, in stages to add the highlight on the protruding areas.

Should the thin black line around the eyes go just under the eye lid, on actually ON the rim... i'd hate to give Thor mascara...

And thanks again, very helpful!

Paint the thin black line around the white of the eyes to separate the skin from the eye.
With respect to Atacam and Gandalf the Grey... why? Do you want the guy to look like he's wearing Mascara?

Yes I'd agree to darkening the eyelid edges but I'd suggest using more thing like Vallejo model colour German Camouflage medium brown added to the flesh tone, then highlighted with the pure flesh tone.

Here's what I meant about the eye. I did this on a bust I'm painting at the moment, you can clearly see the black line around the eye.

I'll try the black line but im just worried of losing the realism if I do. But i can always post the picture and we can see from there.

do you have any examples of blonde stubble I could use as reference?

I just typed into google images and looked at what it gave me. As said it tends to come out brown rather than blonde. Have a look, gives you loads of examples.

I decided to re-do the skin tone as it just looked very rough. I think the pain t is much smoother 2nd time round. Its lost the realistic edge though, especially with the hair as I have no idea how to paint hair. But i'm going to soldier on.

I need to add shadows under the eyes, lip, nose and cheeks. My base coat is Vallejo Game Color Elf Skintone. Im not sure how to effectivly darken the colour though. do i used black? brown? purple? if i dabble with purple then i feel i'll be a little lost. also, what do you think the ideal lip colour would be. sorry for all the questions just im really not used to painting human skint tone and don't have a natural eye for color..... yet. Your help is always appreciated and thank you

Ignore the photo of me (I put it on instagram...) :excruciating:
