Ok, MAJOR update here with LOTS of pics!! First up is a new test marine that I did. I am going for a darker white than usual. Starting with a base of Adeptus BattleGrey, then a coat of Astronomican Grey, then a few highlights of pure white. The picture sucks as I cannot get rid of the yellowish or bluish tinge that keeps appearing. I have yet to go on to the blues (which are base coated in Mordian Blue right now).

And his back:

And his \"blue side\", note the company color is on the kneepad.

And here is a picture of the whole squad as far as I got, which is basically a base coat of both foundation colors, Adeptus BattleGrey and Mordian Blue.

.....and some more!

Here are three rhinos that I have done. The whirli is removeable and I also have some turrets done for a razorback. The two on the right are all glued down (my first two I ever did). I have two more sprues for rhinos. one I am making into a Vindicator (have the resin parts from FW) and the other is going to be a magnetized Predator.

Here is a standard landspeeder, waiting for priming, I have another one still on the sprue that I might make into a Tornado, I\'m not sure yet. I might wait until 5th ed comes out:

Here are 5 termies and behind them you can sort of see the dreadnaught. All the weapons on the dread will be swapable. I also added some small etched brass symbols to the termies. I have another box to put together of them as well:
termies_dread.jpg

And here we have a vintage vindicator and a vintage rhino. I\'m not sure what I am going to do with these yet, but it will involve a lot of plasticard and green stuff! Got them off eBay fairly cheaply:

......AND MORE!!

Here is the pile of sprues left to build yet:

I know there are parts for 5 scouts, 5 assault, another 10man tac squad, a dread, 2 captains, and 2 command squads. Oh yeah, and I have a libby in termie armor in a blister somewhere and a chappy with a jump pack, just don\'t know where they are.

Oh yeah and this:

I am so glad I got into 40k after our tax returns came back! I think I bought all this stuff within 2 weeks. And there are STILL bits I am looking for!

So that is it for now. I will be doing quite a bit of painting this next week as my kids (and I) have off all next week!

Not too shabby :)

If you can manage to get all the rank and file done as well as the first dude then your army will look pretty cool :)

I\'d spend a bit more time on the characters though, still a little messy.

You got a chapter name & logo yet?

A bit of a change from the original plan!

Wow it\'s been over 2 monthes since I last updated this thread! Things have been really nuts around here, I have been building like a fiend and have finally gotten around to taking pics!! (not much painted yet)

A few notes before I start the piccy goodness.

1) I have decided to go with a straight Ultramarine paint scheme for 2 reasons, time and money.

Time: Because I am going back to school, my time has become even MORE scarce. I know I can crank out a decent blue scheme in no time. White is a major PAIN!
Money: If/when I decide to sell this army, or if I find that there are certain units that I bought and assembled but don\'t play with, I think I would have an easier time selling them on eBay if they were painted as Ultra\'s. (I know...I know... WTF right?)

2) I did want to thank everyone here who gave me pointers and tips on painting SoG and shared some fluff with me as well.

Now on to the piccy goodness!!

First up is my magnetized Predator, I still have to make the autocannon turret and lascannon sponsons.

And the parts that make it up, and the magnets:

....and more.............

Next up is my Land Raider. Nothing magnetized on this beast, I glued all the doors shut and the sponsons move.

A Devastator with Multi-Melta:

And some more Devastators, plasma cannon, and two lascannons:

Well that\'s it for now! Not sure when the next update will come. I hope to get painting soon enough, but I have a few commissions to finish up first.

Should be a very cool looking army. I like the color scheme. Makes me want to take my company out of it\'s box and work on it! :D

Nice work so far, one thing Ive never understood is the magnets on dreadnought arms, the thing stay there on their own anyway.

After a while of use they will get worn, and eventually not stay up. They will spin downward, and look like the Dread has some lazy arms :)

So I got a little side tracked these past couple of weeks. Here is a picture of a commission I finished in the beginning of June (I know I know, just now posting the pics?!?!). I spent about 3 weeks on this guy from assembly to final photos. I ended up mounting him on a resin display plinth made by DragonForge.

Anyways, on to the real topic of this thread. Some more marine pictures!! I figured out a nice, speedy method for painting my Ultras consisting of drybrushing (something I hardly EVER did in the past), and inks (no I haven\'t tried the new GW inks, I will once they figure out how to make a decent spraygun!) Overall I really like the look this gives the marines. I am in the middle of reading the Horus Heresy books and the description of the power armor was stuck in my head while painting these guys. The whole ceramic/ceramite/polish etc. adjectives kept ringing in my head. I think these guys look pretty ceramic and polished. I only have their armor done, not sure what company they are going to be yet. Everything that is black has yet to be painted. The paint job is shinier than I like because of my use of the old school inks. ONce they are fully painted I plan on spraying them with dullcote. C &C always welcome!

I have finished half of my first squad. I have also chosen to collect the second company of the Ultramarines. I tried to free-hand the squad markings, wasn\'t real happy with the results and attempted to apply the decals instead. These models are the first time I have ever tried using decals. I am EXTREMELY happy with the way they turned out. I also attempted some minor weathering around the feet. I am happy with those results as well. The Ultramarine symbol is a decal, the tactical marking is free hand. From here on out I am using decals! So, next up are the other 5 marines from the squad, including a sargent with power fist. As always, C & C are always welcome!!

I think they look pretty well done, the free hand tactical symbol looks good from what I can see. For the ultramarine symbol did you try drawing it in with a pencil lightly first then painting it, it helps me sometimes figured you might be able to benefit as well.

I\'ve tried pencil, but I have shakey hands when trying to work delicate techniques, physical issues with my hands at times. I ended up using the decals, which I thought turned out well. Thanks for posting!

Rest of the 10 man squad completed with close ups!

Finished up the rest of tactical squad 1. Here is a group shot of the second half.
sm_squad_pt2.jpg

And now a close up of the sargent. I wanted a tough, leather looking banner on his back, hence the dirty brown. My freehand is a bit weak so I added two transfers, one for the UM symbol and the skull to indicate he is a vet sarge.
smsgt1all.jpg

A close up of the heavy bolter. I went predominately metallic on this guy as I felt it gave the piece that \"heavy\" look.
smhb1all.jpg

And the plasmagunner.
smpg1all.jpg

And a final shot of the full 10 man squad.
smsquad1.jpg

So now I don\'t know what to move onto next. I wanted to do a vehicle next but was going to wait until GW got their spray gun fixed as the thought of painting an entire vehicle by hand doesnt appeal to me. I guess I\'ll move onto my ML devastator squad. As always, C&C are always welcome!!
