Matt´s EUROPE Trip 2009!

Hi Di Ho,

As some of you might know I had a loooot of work this year, including a Summer Academy at my University, some commission work, general work and so on... now I want to use the last bit of my \"Holidays\" to start a epic, übercool trip through Europe using an Interrail Ticket (basically gets me through whole EUROPE for 22 days / 10 days by train... madnesss)...

Now I have to set my route...

So... Do you have any recommendations where to go, any place in EUROPE you enjoyed most...?... My only \"must see\" are beaches, a lot of them...^-^...

I am totally open for any suggestions... I love every country on this planet and have only a healthy selection of well - tempered prejudice, will be fine...:D...

Any recommendations for the Cote d\'Azure ...?... Or whatever... Eastern EUROPE any experience...?... Kroatia...?...

Once I know my route I will post it here, so you can write whether you want to meet up on somwhere along the way for a Cup of Coffee, Tea... Or host me for a day, if you like...:D...

Generally, it´s the time between 24.09. - about 10. October...

Cheers!

The Cote d\'Azure is the area around Nice, right? It is a pretty area, for sure, but I enjoyed the area west of Marseilles better. It\'s not as luxurious and more wildlife. I\'m not sure how accessible it is when you travel by train, though... But, Provence, Camargue and those areas are some of the most beautiful places I\'ve seen.

Ah, yeah... of course luxury is nothing for me...:)...

Thanks for the tip, sounds great...

I will hopefully be visiting Jeremie in Lyon, so France is a definate YESSSS...:D...

Well, the only place my wife and me have visited so far where we both said we could imagine living is Stockholm. Ok, in relation to the Cot d\'Azure it is the other side of Europe, but it is a beautiful city and a \"must see\" in my opinion :)

Stockholm is nice, though, of course, I\'m a bit biased. :) This far north, summer is long gone the time Matt is travelling, though, so the weather can be anything from mild, sunny autumn to storm and cascades of rain.

Should you happen to come here anyway, give me a holler! :)

Hey Matt

I\'ve done the Interail thing twice (a LONG time ago).

1 trip was down through France into Spain - hit Madrid and there\'s a train journey to Toledo (sword city - narrow streets, gorgeous old Moorish building that\'s now the station, big old walls surrounding it. Rhonda is a couple of hours out by Train too - well worth it for the bridge and gorge. Neither have beaches!!! When you\'re down there you can always get over to Morocco as well....

The other trip I did went down to Greece via Italy (via France, Austria and Hungary) - a bit of Island hopping can be fun with lots of Interailers doing the same - Ios was a party Island a few years ago - beautiful is a bit boozy

it\'s a great way to see Europe

Another thought- My cousin just did a european trip and his pictures from Monaco looked amazing...Just supercars and beaches...

Wow, that many Reply´s / Personal Messages... You guys...:)... Thanks a LOT for caring about the Trip...:D... Hrhr...

@ GunjiNoKanrei

Stockholm is definately on my list, but not now... it´s too late in the year, nearly autumn... too cold... Better visit Sweden in Summer, when the Weather is hot and the girls Pants small...^-^...

@ darklord

Same for Scottland... I will DEFINATELY go there, maybe for work... Hogwards Express, of course, of course...

@ Ritual²

Alex Holmen lives in Gotenborg, two beautiful, easy going girls I know in Uppsala, my Cousin in Malmö... I have to do a tour, next summer for sure... I will write you if I go, most definately... thank you very much...:)...

@ freakinacage

Paris is something I see every Spring / Summer for GD, I have Great Friends there and in general, in France... You are right, it´s a must see...

Rome... Hmhm, I have heard it is really expensive... Have friends in Milano, Varese, Ravenna... Venice... Hmhm... Have to see Florence, Bologna, further Sicily and the South in general... it´s tempting...

@ Necroghast

London: Been there more then 5 times... I know it quite well, it´s beautiful... not too cold because of some kind of Stream... But I will be working there soon, so...

Bergen and Edinburrah... Too cold now, definately... Thanks nonetheles...:)...

@ darklord

Kazakstan... It´s cold, isn´t it...?... And I know it´s nothing like in Borat movies (was filmed in Romania, and even Romania is not quite like what is shown in the film...^_^...)...

Would be tough to implement it in my EUROPE Trip as a whole... Maybe do Moscow and Turkey as well... hmhm...

@ Orb

Ah, great...:)... You did it... Tell me, is it good to travel by my own...?... All my friends don´t have money now, because they are cheapskates or poor guys... I am not quite what to take with me... how much... a tent...??... A Sleeping bag...?... A Chain for my stuff if I go swimming...?... Questions...:)... What was the most handy thing you had with you...?... Did you get to know a lot of people...?... How long have you been travelling...?...

Marocco seems crazy and I will have to look out not to be kidnapped, as I have heard... Dunno whether it is true, but they told me that taxi drivers sometimes kidnap people... ...

Greece... Yeah, Island Hopping... is it possible with the Interrail pass...?... I will have to use ferries, right...?...

Tell me more, please...:)... Sounds great... Do you still remember the exact route you did...?... How many days did you spend in average where...?...

@ Necroghast

Ah, thanks... You made sure I will avoid Monaco like crazy...:D...

@ cheelfy

Biarriz... Never heard of it... I will keep it in mind...

@ hestan101

I was there last Summer after the GD UK... Beautiful Landscape, so much different then you might expect it... Really great, makes you want to take a deeep breath in and out...

@ Or Derby city center (because I live there!)

@ NGArtStudios

Hehe... I have a house in Krakow, normally I would be there all summer long... absolutely agree with you, love it more then every other Polish City...:)... It´s the SHIT...:)...

Geneva... Yeah... I will put it on my list...

That´s a reason...^_^... England seems very popular...

In general: I somehow have Lisboa as a Goal, because it is quite on the western End of Europe and I loooove Portugal... Jeremie Bonamant will host me for some days (yaaay... my dear friend...) and he might show me Lyon, Nizza, Toulouse... Whatever I want...

So I will have to choose whether it will be going East or West... I am more excited about West, although Island Hopping sounds great as well...

Seems as if this is turning out great... of course I will post a kind of travel fotodiary once I come back, hrhr...

So far my VERY general idea is: Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels, Lyon, Marseille / Nizza / Toulouse... Then a bit tricky... Border France / Spain, in Spain Valencia, Madrid, then Portugal... Lisboa and Porto...

Hell of a Trip for ~ 20 days...:)...

i went to rome a few years ago and it didn\'t strike me as especially expensive, seeing as it\'s a capitol city.

things may have changed though. it\'s a beautiful city, although my folks prefer florence

@Matt - That\'s awesome I didn\'t know you had a house there. Where in Krakow if you don\'t mind me asking? My family has a house a few kilometers south of the city itself.

Geneva is a great city, the atmosphere is awesome so definitely worth checking out.
