Matte Varnish

I've been looking at varnishing miniatures with an airbrush instead of spray can. I had previously bought the Minitaire range of paints and finally have gotten around to trying the flat coat. Every time I have tried it, it seems to actually add shine to the miniature. Anybody have any suggestions as to why that would occur? I've shaken the bottle thoroughly as far as I can tell.

Otherwise, are there better varnishes for airbrushing?

Before I begin I need to tell you I have no experience with the actual product you are using.

However I had my own custom paint business for over 10 years and found any Matte type varnish would do this if applied to heavy. Essentially you need one good coat, that's it, it can't be a dust coat as it will go dry and as soon as you wet it up again with another layer it will go gloss. Essentially Matte Varnish or Lacquers are a complete nightmare.

Hope that helps ?

Vallejo premium matte varnish is pretty decent. Not the regular stuff, the premium.
