Ciao everyone, heres a new WIP of a Space Wolf Terminator that Mick (Torn Blue Sky) sent me. Iv been painting chip onto the armour (my first time!) using this mini as a guide:
http://www.coolminiornot.com/129675
But should i put more chips on? I have only put them on the head, shoulder pads and power fist, but should i put any lower? or build them up more?
And the ship on the yellow shoulder pad, i have painted silver, should i change this to brown?

Next i have painted the eyes in OSL (first time aswell!) any tips on those would be great.

O and, i only have codex grey!! So all the greys have been home brewed using grey white and blues!

Done a bit more on it, added more chips and changed the silver chips to brown (looks better IMO) and painted all the bone areas on the hands, torso, knee and shoulder pad.

Possibly the best mini i have painted so far.

Couple of things. The grass on the rocks looks a bit odd. Would be better if it was sand and brush that a green color. Next is the scatches. Looks like you painted a triangle. This is just my opinion mind as I dont do Space marines (Yet) but I think they would look better as a dark line that is highlighted underneath.

Over all the mini looks good and I would vote between a 6.5 and 7. I wouldnt post a wip tho as the score will be low for not being finshed. I would wait till its done before posting it (also just my opinion)

Overall great stuff maybe the osl would look better a different color but it still looks pretty good.

What colour could i do the OSL? Which would stand out well from the blue?
I didnt really have a \'plan\' for the scratches, so i ended up doing larger \'triangle ones on the shoulder pads, and flat areas. And smalller \'lines\' on the head, and legs, etc.
I won\'t post this while in WIP stage for voting as i hate voting on WIPs, so other people probably do as well!

I matt ! I\'m the painter of the SW and it\'s a pleasure to saw that you inspire of my work
Your scratch are too big, and not at a good place, they are to be on the part were are more dommaged, after use foam of blister with a little bit of paint, it\'ll give a very realistis scratch. For the paint, give more shadow and higtlight, go to SW grey + white or white pure.
for the OSL i think green or red eye can be cool with the blue of the armour.
Oh and for the base, you have to paint the rock too, give red, blue, brown, and green colour to the rock, like natural rock in fact.
sorry for my english.

Oh and hello all, it\'s my first post on CMON forum héhé lollollol
(second for it)
so i don\'t know if it\'s like in other forum, and if i have to do a little presentation of myself for my first post.
So my name is julien casses i\'m 20, french, love paint (and sculpt but have to work on it for Fr GD héhé:cry:lol) and i\'m making journalism studies.
All have a nice painting (or work) day

Cheers fir that. What do you mean by using the blister foam? Do i use it to apply the brown scratches? or use it to put grey ontop of the scratches?

Hi all,

I think the scratches on the power-fist side leg look great but the ones on the shoulder pads don\'t look that belivable. Possibly due to them being bigger, I dunno. But great job on the other bits!

Im guna redo the shoulder pad scratches and make them smaller and along the edges more, will probably do this tonight if i get the time.

Well instead of starting a new thread il just add to this and make it my WIP thread.

Iv started an Eldar Wraithlord, wasnt to keen on the out of the box pose so i thought id do a bit of conversion to the legs to get a bit more of an interesting look to it.

This is the first time iv ever done a major conversion (cutting bits up annd resulpting) but i reckon its gone alright.
Iv changed both legs so it looks like hes kneeling in a sort of \'sniper\' pose.

Iv since finished the first coat of blue and ALL the gems on the backpack bit (theres soooooo many of them!)

The painting will just be GW tabletop style, because this is going to be for use in an army and if i try anything more complicated il never get it finished! lol

And iv used a transfer instead of freehand because, quite frankly im rubbish at it (can only do simple stuff!) and i would never be able to do anything this technical!

Matty: I\'m going to ask a one question:
Is that primed with a Car Primer?

Because to be honest is certainly looks like it and to my eyes (with the size of the pictures) I can see several \"faults\".

The Red Headpiece isn\'t smooth, there are areas which look distinctly patchy and I think that in this it\'s partially the Primer which is not helping. Cellulose Car primers have a destinct tendency to be shiney on Plastic models and this can interfere with the application of the acrylic paints.

I also think that you are making a \"rod for your own back\" by doing details like the gems and the Head piece first instead of concentrating on the bulk of the figure. If you worked the blue to ensure that there was a solidly highlighted and shadowed base then the \"Flashy\" pieces would stand out.

Oh and I have to say that I think that the additional piece on the head really doesn\'t work. The Eldar are about elegance and style and I\'m sorry to say that it reminds me of a \"Flat Cap\" slapped on the head.

Damn what I\'ve said really sounds harsh, but I\'m trying to give you some constructive critiscim on a technically difficult piece.

It\'s fine, yea i think its car stuff, muck cheap compared to GW\'s stuff so i tend to use that, i found it has a more matte finish than others iv used as well.
The red looks patchy as it was wetblended but iv went over with anothe coat and sorted it out and got rid of the water stain from the transfer.
The gems frist tip is a good un, and its not to late fro me to adjust that and make changes, so il remember that for the rest of the painting.

I think the additional head piece as taken from a conversion somebody had done on GW\'s site, i just reckoned it look pretty cool.

And yea, it sounds harsh the firt time over but iv read it a few times and they are really good tips, cheers Mike.

Matty: I\'m glad you understand what I was trying to put across.
The conversion is a good concept and having painted this straight from the box I know what a ba****d this can be.
Good luck. I\'ll be keeping an eye on this thread to see how you get on.

Matty, nice repose, good effort there, but I reckon DR\'s right, I wouldn\'t have completely assembled it till I\'d got at least all the pieces base coated.

He posted it on the wrong thread so iv brought it over lol

He isnt completely assembled, the head and back piece can be clipped/pushed on due the joints so the can both be taken off. And the arms are only pinned on and the gun is only connected to the one hand, its only resting on his left hand.

Il do a bit more on him tonight, i was thinking of doing the gun in metallics? Any other suggestions?

Well it :cussing: up tonight! I was painting the back bit with all the gems on and i was doing washes around the gems, but it kept leavin water marks whilst it was drying (is there any way to do this without the watermarks?) So then i was repainting blue to blend it it, and i was looking at one from GW with a stiffle effect paintjob, that went wrong. So i resprayed which went on to thick so ran it under the tap (to get excess paint off) then scrubbed it a bit to strip it. (Getting really annoyed at this point!)

Then one of the bits with the gems on snapped off from the back section!!! GGgrrrrrrrrr!!! So angry now! :flame:

So it looks like iv gotta start from scratch on the back section, and then pin the two bits together.

So if i get anything done tonight il post an update up tomorrow.

Right iv started on the gun using metallics, im really hapy with it, and put the gems on. The lower part of the gun is yet to be painted but il probably do it in reds.

Iv repainted the back part aswell, iv tried to do a darker blue wash around the gems and higlighted at the tops but it hasnt came out well on the photo\'s.
