Do you turn up to the interview carrying a gerry can and a box of matches?

What did they say?

Sorry to hear it by the way... if it\'s what you really want, keep at it on you\'ll get there eventually.

Contact VINCENTI..He is a FireFighter, maybe he can point you in the right directions for what\'s needed.

Oh and by the way I have IMMENSE respect for all those Smokebreathers out there. I know it\'s a job I couldn\'t do.

lol.... No jerry cans involved! I haven\'t even had the chance to go to an interview yet, get knocked back every time on the application form! I normally spend days on them giving the best and truthfull answers i can. After five attempts, you start to run out of things to write! I\'m feeling über frustrated at the moment, i even stopped smoking and started exercising loads so that i would ace the fitness test (if i ever get that far!) Thank you for the tip dragonsreach, might pm him.

I don\'t know anything about the application process, if it\'s to a station or the service in general but maybe it\'s worth giving the local station a call and asking for some advice. Maybe some volunteer work that would get you some experience for the application?

Do they at least give you any reasons for their denial of your application? Experience, motivations, or anything of the sort?

The cheeky bit of advice is to stop being so truthful in your answers ;)

I would definitely go meet with whoever is going through the applications and ask why you\'ve been rejected so many times. They should give you a good reason, and if not, hey! This is AMERICA! Do the American thing and SUE!

While I hate to see good people denied their calling, the services like RNLI, Fire, Ambulance and police have understandably strict entry requirements.

Not only could they cost the lives of the people you are trying to save but they are also responsible for yours.

I certainly wouldn\'t consider bending the truth to further your application.

When it comes to life and death, honesty is the best policy and personal development is the route to success.

i agree fully, i am aware of the responsibilities and dangers of the job, and having served in the armed forces, i know how quickly something can go very wrong! My two friends that i lost will always remind me of that! And if something bad happens because you weren\'t honest about your skills, then you shouldn\'t even have considered a job were lives are at stake! So if it takes me a hundred more applications before i\'m accepted by being honest, i will be glad to wait.

Dude, try over here in sunny Darrset :p
I dunno about the fire service, but I know the each of the 42-43 Police services have varying entry requirments...

I would have thought having some armed forces experience would have been a good thing on your side though, calm under fire, used to hard work, that kinda carry on.

Sorry to hear you didn\'t get it this time. I would definitely ask them what your weak points were and where you can improve- I think they\'re legally obliged to tell you why you got rejected- and then you\'ll have specific targets to focus on next time. Asking may count in your favour too because it shows willingness to learn and a desire for self-improvement. (Can you tell I\'ve done too many job applications!)

Springbok, Do you wear glasses or contact lenses?

Only asking because I know from friends that have applied in the past that if you do wear any of these then they will not take you because of the rewuirement to have normal 20/20 unaided vision when wearing breathing apperatus.

Not in the UK.
Really? I thought they were. ??? Ah, well. But most reasonable employers will tell you why you got rejected if you ask, I think.

Edit: Although finding this out is bloody difficult. A Google search of UK employment law just gives me endless lists of law firms.

Ach, I give up.
