I loved this miniature since I first saw her here on cmon. So I just could not belive my eyes when I discovered her on an auction on ebay. I was so excited that I overlooked the \"paypal only\" information... :rolleyes:
But thanks to much patience and understanding for me I got her nonetheless :).

And here she is!

I\'m quite happy about the way the black on the kimono turned out. But I\'m not completely sure if I like the snow - it\'s my first try on a snow base.
I decided not to paint her as a geisha as I wanted to paint the kimono white and had already thought about putting her on a snow base. I just had the feeling that she would turn out too light if I furthermore painted her with a white face.

Please tell me what you think about her. It seemed like it took me ages to finish her but I definitely learned quite a lot by doing it - for example not to try to paint when you\'ve got a fever - after three hours of hard work the only result was that I had to redo the face completely and start all over again... :rolleyes:

Every miniature tells a story.

I always like reading about the experiences people have when acquiring and painting their miniatures.

It\'s great that you finally got this mini, and painted her for all to see. Very nice painting Telcontari!

Yeah, I can\'t imagine painting a mini (or doing much else for that matter) when you\'ve got a fever would be all that fun. Your patience and painting skills appear to have paid off.

They say that every picture tells a story. Well perhaps every mini also tells a story.

Well... I should have known better. But I just had started painting her when I got ill. And all I could do for some time was browsing cmon and looking at all those beautiful minis :(. And all I wanted was to get to my desk and to continue painting her. When I felt a little better I thought I could do it but I was wrong as it turned out :rolleyes:.

It\'s true, I think, I shouldn\'t have added the close up of the face. It\'s not the best picture. But I only thought about that when I allready submitted the complete picture here and so what - I looked at her again this morning and I still like what I see. And that counts much :)!

love the freehand and hair.

what colours did you use for the hair?
it looks so natural.

my only gripe would be the base, not being neat around the rim.

but that\'s personal preferance.
and don\'t worry, i didn\'t mark you down for it.

Thanks :).
First I painted it completely black. Next I highlighted with many layers of thinned down pure white. And than I smoothed the transitions with a very thin mix of ca. 1:1 black and stormy blue. I also dimmed the white at some parts with this mix because it seemed to be too bright.
And then I repeated this procedure until I thought it looked \"real\".
Took me quite some time to finish it but I think part of that is due to the fact that it was the first time I did hair like that and so I had to experiment a lot until I got it right.
