Mentor?

If someone is your inspiration, your tutor, your guide through painting, then they are a mentor. Some people erroneously use the term to describe their painting idols, people they\'ve never met, but are still inspiration.

Kinda like the relationship that Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell had at the beginning, he taught her and inspired her.

I\'m sure there is an official definition somewhere, but a mentor is basically a teacher, but a little more.

Someone that takes you under there wing and sets you on the right path sort of thing.

Just pick any film with Sean Connery from the past 20 years. Sean\'s character in that film is very likely someone\'s mentor.... :D

well, according to the commercials, the mentos might actually be MORE useful in painting.

I can see it, someone trying NMM for the first time, looking depressed, have a mentos, the song starts up, background singers, etc...and BAM! perfect nmm and a minty fresh smile

so.. where can i get one? :D
Basicly, you ask. Find someone who\'s work you admire and you would like to have critique your work. Send them an IM.

OUCH!

If you are looking for a Mentor then one who lives in your region might be advantageous.
That way you could arrange a get together, perhaps with some other painters wanting to learn new techniques.

I don\'t have a mentor, per se.

Unless one can consider an entire community of painters to be a single entity.

In which case, all of CMON is my mentor.

I\'ve learned something from just about everyone that\'s responded to my pleas for help. And some people have, I hope, learned things from me.

Even if it\'s just that King Kong makes a brief and distant appearance in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow....

lol

Yeah, I remember the last time I sucked on my mentor. You know how hard it is to talk yourself out of that situation? :D

Seriously, ONLY Ritual? First of all, he\'s a great painter, second you\'ve got one painter more than me :D
