Any tips would be much appreciated, as im really trying to improve my metallics, taking onboard comments from Skarsnik and Gobbla and my Spasm Warriors axe.

Iv used small images or this post would be HUGE! lol

Well what I can see looks decent, but a big pic for the last image would be handy so we can judge it properly.

Some things that you might consider:

Are the washes just applied everywhere? If so, instead of all of those multiple black washes, why not apply them more carefully after the first, and perhaps mix in some blues and purples very subtly, to shade more accurately and really add to the effect?

I like to go at it with some Tamiya Clear colours to vary it up a bit. Again this is something that may or may not suit the metal effect you are after. Check out Jakob Nielson\'s site for more on these.

Try highlighting the metal with glazes and blending them as you would with a non-metallic colour, applying hotspots of shine.

The darkest parts look like they could be darker still to really boost the contrast (like on holes on the metal bit he is standing on).

But in all it definately looks like an improvement.

The first washs were that washs. But after that i just started applying glazes over the areas. All the hotspot areas on the photos are painted like that and are that bright IRL (the lamp is helping them a little, but they are there)

Iv never thought about mixing in colours with the washs, that might be an idea!

Jakob Nielsens site is what i was looking at for hints on this! Plus a recipie by SiLaX.
