Microsoft to buy Google?!?

I like Microsoft....they sell me relatively easy to use products, and make XBOX.
There was a class action law suit here in Iowa, and anyone who had purchased Microsoft products was entitled to a rebate of up to 200 bucks.
Since, I freely bought the products, and never felt coerced in any way, I refused to take part in it. Although I\'ve plenty of friends and family that did.
I still can\'t figure out what they did that was so horrible as to recieve that kind of punitive measure.

I would have taken it even if I freely bought the product. Like all corporations it\'s not out to give you good stuff (that\'s just a side effect of its goal to amass as much profit as it possibly can), and a corporation is not like a human with morals or anything, so I would feel no real loyalty to it at all and would have taken the cash!
I find Microsoft XP useful and paid for it, but I do not need any other Microsoft products at the moment. Its goal is to squeeze as much profit as it possibly can out of me, therefore I would not feel bad at all if there was a way to legally squeeze money out of it for me - I am simply behaving towards it as it would behave towards me given the chance.
I would feel differently if we are talking about a small family business obviously - but big corporations - nah...
XP has worked consistently well for me so in that sense I am pleased I have it in the same way that I am pleased to have Linux.
The EU did come down quite hard on Microsoft a while ago by imposing record breaking daily fines of $2.4 million per day for breaching competition rules, and they seemed to be OK with just paying the fine instead of fixing what was breaking the rules. I think the total paid by Microsoft after losing it\'s appeal at the European Court was £345 million in total.
Corporations were historically created to benefit the population rather than select shareholders so I feel it\'s prudent to watch companies like this for anti-competitive practices that don\'t benefit us.
But that\'s just my view... I use XP daily by the way lol
Like I say, my friends and family took advantage of it, but that is what is inheritly wrong with that. It is that sort of pile on thinking that ruins it.
Just because there is a handout doesn\'t mean you need to take it.
Again, I never felt Microsoft wronged me, as opposed to a company like Whirlpool which sold me a known defective Hot Water Heater, and after the 2nd failure in 6 months, only agreed to pay for the broken part...Had they offered money, i would have taken that.
Microsoft asked a price for what they were selling, i felt it was \'fair\' so I paid it.
How did they go wrong there?

microsoft has insured you have no viable option to your computer OS when you buy a new computer. it doesn\'t matter that you may have wanted to buy it anyway.
what matters is you had no real alternative.
yes and i\'m sure there are many computer savvy people here that would be just as happy on linux, but how many of you are grandmothers and still happy with linux.
i\'m strongly of the opinion that companies of this size that use their power to destroy competition, should have their board members shot by firing squad and buried in unmarked graves.

Gates is making enuff money anyway and doesnt need to totally cripple our right to buy elsewhere.
I have never understood the constant need for MORE money, MORE assets. Don\'t you get to a point when you are comfortable and enjoy it?
While reality may take a different course I have always thought that if I inherited (not likely)or won alot of money I would take enough that me and mine are going to be set up for life and then give the rest away.
Dont get me wrong....I would make sure I had enough first but I would like to think I know where to draw the line in the sand for enough.
