Miliput

I recently purchased some miliput (I belive normal grain), and as i have no expeirience with it, I would like to know some of the similarities and differences to GW\'s green stuff, and if it can be worked with the same way.

main difference i can remember is that you can sand it and cut it after it has set. I havent got mine out for about a year so texture wise I can\'t really remember the difference

milliput is like working with clay, whilst green stuff is like chewing gum.

use milliput for bulking out and a mix of the two for sharp crisp detail.

green stuff is best used for organic features.

most people now use procreate as it\'s the best of both.

Yup. Milliput takes details better, but is more \'friable\' when uncured, especially since it\'s slightly water soluble and too much water over a thin piece can cause havoc. When it\'s cured, it\'s rock-hard and can be dry sculpted. IMO it works best when mixed with a little green stuff.

Actually, if you hadn\'t already ordered it, I\'d say it works best if you leave it and go and buy another \'hard\' putty like magic sculp or apoxie sculpt. After using apoxie for a long while, I tried a bit of milliput again and declared a vendetta against it. The former is slightly softer, but a lot more pleasant and easy to work with, particularly when it starts to firm up. Not as sticky or stinky or toxic. And apoxie + GS works like a dream.

As for procreate: it\'s very good stuff, but has it\'s own idiosyncracies (for good or ill), and I can\'t see it completely replacing other putties.

Actually saw a suggestion off the Kneadtite sight that said to get the best of both worlds mix GS and Milliput 50/50 -

If it was opened it\'s probably no use now.
Found out the hard way that Milliput will \"Go Off\" after a while if not used.

Water is a great smoothing medium for Milliput and you end up with a paste that you can use to fill in annoying mould defects on large areas such as cloaks.
Haven\'t used Milliput for conversions in a long while prefering Green Stuff.
However Victoria Lamb makes all her conversions with it so can\'t be too shabby can it.

She might do conversions with Milliput, but she does her full sculpts in Green Stuff, as evidenced by the figures she\'s been sculpting for Impact! Miniatures:

I thought it would be so thats more or less why I\'ve left it alone. I thought it was ok for making things like rocks and bolders, it was my first ever step into putties of any sort and thats all I used it for worked ok for me.
