I have never been in the military.... and I am going to go off topic here.... (well still kind of vaguely related).....
The military service in my family is limited to my grandad, who during World War Two wanted to be a RAF pilot. During testing to apply to be a pilot was told that he was colourblind and therefore would not be able to fly.
It was suggested to him at that point that perhaps his skills would be better used elsewhere, and to cut a long story short he worked at Bletchley Park decoding German messages. His work was covered by the Official Secrets Act and no one not even his family knew what he did until the restriction was lifted in the 1970\'s.....

My dad was a Signaller for about 35 years. I was in the Communications Reserve for 2 years during university, and then happily bailed to focus on graduate school. I was essentially \"Beetle Bailey\" with a B.Sc. anyway, they didn\'t need me

Never served, drew a pass Never had the urge to go into the military though, so I was happy

Well, I am german the situation here is slightly different I think. German soldiers did a lot of crimes during the last 100 years and theres still a shade over our army. So most germans think about the army with very mixed emotions and suspicion (I think this is the mean reason for our No to the Iraq-war).
It\'s no wonder that lots of germans dont go to the army and choose to do a year of social-service instead. Thats what I did, I worked with handicaped people and learned a lot during this time, so that I think not a single minute was wasted time.
Anyway, I have no problem with people that are in the army, some of my best friends are in the army and I know they are OK.

Not that I know of, I was there from 88 to 92 and don\'t recall that, but does\'nt really mean its not there.
I used to frequent the mall bar( I forget the name) and pennants when I was there.
And for late munchies we used to order from Eat it and Beat all the time. Only sub place that would deliver on post.
2 years part time Territorial Army infantry 5 Queens regiment. from 18 to 20 years old.
Our lot was commanded by a 9 year\'s service para, Great fun, great training, and good mates that I still have today.
Got chucked out whilst on a 2 week camp tour, for grabbing a (part time twat) sergeant by the throat and placing him up against a door, unfortunately it was the sergeants mess door.
I guess I missed my mum
But thats another story..............

I was never in the military myself.. blew a knee out when I was a kid playing sports and the military wouldnt let me in. My god father retired as a one star General though from the US Army. My father was in the Army right after the Korean war and served 4 years in Korea.
Last month when I was home, I was going through a box of some old things with my mother of my fathers and we came across a box full of 100\'s of pictures of my dad that he or someone else took while he was in Korea.. some are quite funny.
I guess I got my love of military modeling from my them as my dad took me to all the good war movies coming out in the 70\'s and 80\'s and they gave me military models as a kid. Ive learned more about painting and modeling from that side of the hobby I guess.

never felt the need to joint the army - not tough or fit enough really. i do work for the nhs though. that feels like fighting a constant battle!
we had a guy come in a few years ago who had blown both of his hands off (and a good portion of his crotch) trying to make a home made bomb. served him right i guess....
