Milliput wash?

So I am trying to take more time and try for better overall results this year. Prep being an area I have chiefly ignored I thought I'd start there.

Tim/Freakinacage was nice enough to send me a few samples of some of the putties out there and I tried to use the milliput as a wash by pulling off a small hunk, sort of making a bowl shaped depression in it and mixing some water around with a brush. Theory being I would brush this onto the mini to help smooth out the rough spots and plug any air holes.

It didn't work at all. It's like the product wasn't wate soluble and wouldn't mix. Can anyone help shed some light on this situation? Anyone out there use the milliput wash on a regular basis?

Thanks for the help all!

I use Milliput quite a bit and I have never had an issue.

One technique that I use is to generously wet my fingers when kneading (after I feel the initial mix is sufficient), and continue to add water until soft and smooth almost to the consistency wood filler/spackeling compound, then draw off of it with a wet brush.

Its not quite a wash but like paintable putty.
One of the other things that I like about milliput is that it smoothes very well with a wet brush around contours.

Okay.... I think I may be on to my problem. You say you wet your fingers when getting a mix. Is milliput a two part product? I had two seperate lumps in the little sample bag but they looked the same to me so I though it was two lumps of the same product. Is that my problem?

Yes, that was definitely your problem, it's a 2 part epoxy like greenstuff/kneadite, just not so differently coloured.

Don't worry about it dude, we all have our moments. Do tell us how it works out through, I've read about the miliput wash, but I've not actually tried it myself.

The milliput wash actually works pretty well. Great for filling in pinholes and giving everything a nice, smooth surface once you sand it down.

My guess is you bought a batch that wasnt intended for use in this particular century. Take it back to whoever sold you it, make threatening faces & demad either your money back or a fresh packet, consumer rights always win :)

This is super good advice, and I usually do my best to go to a store and start shouting until I get free goods. Unfortunately this batch was given to me from someone overseas (Freakinacage! Very generous!) so the cost of the flight to his doorstep from here makes it slightly less cost effective. Probably fun though! Maybe worth it in the end....

Thanks for the tip!

Hmm must have some darned smooth gnashers for that.:smile-big:

Anyway milliput wash works nice. Dont add much water though to your little bowl. A drop at a time.

lol i thought i said that it was a two parter... oh well. the a+b works for this as well i think

it's not old putty, it's only a year or two and has been kept in the freezer since pruchase so should be fresh as a daisy!

Well at least you can console yourself that you didn't superglue your teeth together.

I think I've heard that one about the ear to the painting table, I believe that happened in the plaza store, where they also had a customer get so excited at a grand reopening (when they still had the vouchers) that he involuntarily simultaneously released both his bladder and his bowels.
