Hi,

if you happen to paint the newest Andrea-pinup (no30 if I see it right in the thread), please paint the clothes(and hair if possible) pinkisk instead of the official yellow+redhead scheme.
that would be good for a few lauchs as then the scene would pretty much resemble PinkyPie+Gummy. :D

Thanks Wigdog, Bailey and Maxx. Wigdog; looking forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks and congrats on the head judge position, paint jam this year for sure. Maxx; I wasn't familiar with pinkie pie and gummy but a quick google search showed me images, brilliant idea! That will be the plan for this girl since I am ordering her and a couple others today.

I haven't had time to take any update pictures but I plan to this weekend. Tanks again guys!

Thanks guys for stopping by. Well it seems like this weekend I didn't sleep, only painted. My hula hula girl got a lot of paint put on her this weekend (15 hours just on Saturday alone). Here are the steps I went through on her to get where she sits at the present.

For this girl I decided to crack open my airbrush and see how I could use it on a smaller figure. I am not the most comfortable with an airbrush so it is a little scary.

airbrush out.

Getting some color on the flowers and darkening the hair. I'm also defining the face and adding and reducing volume where needed.

getting more parts glued on a testing colors. Oh no! she is starting to look like a china doll. I got to correct that tonight.

A nice shot of her booty.

I think I like the airbrush for basic base coating of flesh.

As I prefer to airbrush, what color/color manufacturer did you use on the model for airbrushing & highlighting? Also did you use a thinner?

you mentioned in a previous post that you are coming to atlanta for an event this month? Im about 15 miles north of Atlanta but what event is it that you are attending?

There's a yearly figure show in Atlanta. If you're in the area it's definitely worth checking out. Better yet, bring some figures to enter. It uses the open system for judging so every figure is judged on it's own and awarded gold, silver, bronze, or a certificate of merit. It's not the standard 1st, 2nd, 3rd. No one gets a medal at the expense of someone else. If 10 entries merit a gold medal, then they hand out 10 gold medals. I like the approach and I think it encourages people of varying skill levels to enter.

Xpock, you should try to make it especially being so close. It is Feb 14th-16th and is a lot of fun.

For painting the Hula girl and all my figures I mostly use jo Sonja paint thinned with water. I am not sure of the colors because they change from figure to figure. I’ll notethe colors on my next figure if that helps.

That would help very much. Do you use a specific brand of paints? I use mostly Vallejo and tamiya.

The brand I use is mostly Jo Sonja. It is very affordable and comes in giant tubes. I like it because it dries very flat and won't shine if overworked.

Thanks for the recommendation & I will certainly make it to the event on the 14-16th. Just curious, how long did you paint flesh tones until you were happy with the results? I've been doing quite a bit of research and practice and am still not happy with the results. You wouldn't happen to have a skype account would you? I would love to paypal you a payment to take a couple minutes of your time so that I could get some pointers over skype. I know that I wont learn everything I need to know in one lesson but maybe it will at least help me towards being happy with the results.

I've ordered a few Kingdom Death models and dont want to do a bad job painting them as they are not easy to replace.

I don't have a Skype account and would never charge for helping a fellow painter. We can talk a lot in Atlanta about painting skin tones if you like. Bring your paints and brushes with you so we can do some work on something. I'll make sure the Grex rep has an AB that we can borrow.

That would be great, I'll probably only be able to make it one full day at the event but would love to meet up. Ill PM you my Number if you dont mind shooting me a text. I should have at least KD models with me. That's very kind of you to help out at no cost. How long would you say on average it takes you to paint a 54mm model?

It usually takes me about 3-6 hours personally. I've been painting for quite a while and have gotten quite good at blending but I am having a very difficult time mixing flesh tones that I am happy with.

I spend a lot more time than that on a figure, even paining everyday almost. Send that PM my way and we will hook up in Atlanta.

Thanks fellas. 10, the car she is leaning against is red so I don't want to overwhelm the scene with too much red.

Thanks WGS and Zab. Zab; you worry me a little.

I forgot to post pics of the other girl I started. I'm going to have to paint her twice as I really made a mess of the assembly.
