Mind blank

Hiya everyone, I need a little help with a fellow I dubbed \"Marsh Trooper\" because of the base I did for him:

I am pretty pleased with the base, it\'s supposed to be a swamp, as you might have already guessed ;) My real problem is with him:

While I am open to any suggestions to make the base better, I have no idea what colour to use on the part of his uniform that I have currently begun to paint leathery. I feel that this brown just doesn\'t work, and I now want to get away from the leather look completely. However, my mind is blank. I have no idea how to paint this part.... any suggestions please? He\'s the one mini that keep sme from becoming insane from my Japan diorama, and now that I can\'t go on, who knows what will happen? :] Thanks ;)

Perhaps you should start up your own discussion thread?

Reality TV works..why not reality forums???

How about.... You are not allowed to speak to each other for a week other than through the forums???

Possibly not these forums however:D:bouncy:

What was I going to say? ???

Oh yeah, I like the idea of something that compliments the browns. If you do the leather color, he\'ll probably disappear into the swamp base. Unless you\'re looking for realistic camouflaging. :D

But yeah...blue-grey or a military grey would probably contrast enough, but not pop out and make \"clashing\" camouflage.

...and I still want you to finish that Japan diorama. ^_^

You might be on to something there with that grey. I think I\'ll try that.

Finn, remember, we don\'t live together and I don\'t necessarily see her every day ;)

Equus, I will finish my Diorama, definitely. Maybe even this month, who knows.... ;) However, it might be very different from what you imagine.... :flip:

Also gives you a wonderful chance to weather/distress the gray, since he\'s mucking about in the swamp.

Heh...and given that we had ideas for everything from mini torii to Godzilla, I\'m not sure what I\'m expecting. I just like to bug people to finish stuff cuz I\'m so horrible at it. :D

Me again.... I actually found a little time to paint (at 11 PM) and now I wonder.... what the heck is this thing that looks like some kind of carrying device?

If anyone knows what this is supposed to be, what material this could be and/or what colour to use I would be grateful. It looks OK in black (that is, OK, for my painting ability - the mini itself looks really bad), but I would really like to know what it is before I highlight it....

I dont see a problem with the color. What I would do is cut the boots off and mount the fellow as if he were standing in a foot or two of water.

After moving to our new house, I was finally able to make a little progress on my marsh trooper.
Here\'s a little guide: How not to paint. Sakura is not allowed to read this as it will only alarm her.

a) Enter the basement where you were allowed to set up your painting table.
b) Paint for half an hour.
c) Get up to get fresh water, but forget that you are in the basement and hit the ceiling with your head full speed. Fall down onto the side of your chair, lose balance immideatly and fall down on the floor.
d) Get up from the floor and go through the door to the other part of the basement. Forget that there is a small step and trip, hitting your head on the wall again.
e) Feel woozy.
f) Decide to get a paper towel and wash the blood from your head. On your way up the stairs, slip and fall again.
g) Contemplate if you should even bother to get up.
h) Get up. Climb the stairs on all fours.
i) Wash head.
j) Come to the conclusion that the basement is dirty and reach for iodine.
k) Wait until eyes cease to water.
l) Get down into the basement again, slightly wondering when your sense of balance will return.
m) Sit down at the table.
n) Stare blankly.
o) Realize that you still have no fresh water, but a puddle of dirty water on the floor where you fell.
p) Get water without further impromptu slapstick comedy.
q) Paint as if nothing had happened.
r) The next day, take the best part of an hour to actually recall why your head hurts like hell.
s) Do steps a) to q) at 2 AM. Do not wake parents.

Art calls for pain. Obviously, it calls for my pain.

However, despite my midnight rampage, I finished quite a bit more. Here are two pictures....

I noticed three spills: Paint from the thumb onto the rifle on the back, paint from the arm onto the wrist... thingy and the greyish paint for the rifle onto the arm.
I do like the skin colour, but I have no idea what I used.
I\'m going to paint the metal in NMM.... I am still amazed how much better that looks in pictures, the current one is only basecoat plus first shade.
Sorry for the bad lighting, I can\'t find my diffuser box right now... it\'s in a box somewhere :D

So.... any comments on how to improve that guy? I am gong to finish him tonight and then start on my Total Testosterone entry....

Depending on your timeframe, two suggestions: If you have lots of time, do some darker blue grey in a camo pattern. If not, muddy up with boots and legs--he is in a swamp, after all.

Hope this helps,
Jabber

I\'m sorry, Mosch. I\'m laughing at your pain. You have the worst painting disaster karma!

Maybe you should have painted him gory red? lol

Sniffles, in that case you will be delighted to hear that I dropped him today and hit my head on the table while reaching for him which caused my water bottle to tip over and spill over my head :D
I have no idea why slapstick movies even have a script, it all seems to come so naturally....

At this point I think you should hire an exorcist to cleanse your house and bury that mini in the garden.
