Mind over matter, or no more brush-licking

Lick your brushes! why?

  1. it tastes good
  2. it gives a good point to your brushes
  3. it can give you a brightly coloured tongue
  4. lines of paint on the lips means no need for lipstick
  5. what else are you going to lick? I certainly can\'t afford to have ribs removed

Margo, don\'t you find that synthetic brushes just wear too quickly? I know I do, they don\'t even last 2 weeks with me :(

That said I lick my sculpting tools.
Hope you\'re not using Milliput then. Yuck! Anyway, I don\'t think germs survive the vulcaniser, do they? :D

Quote from Cindy: \"I can distinguish brands of paints by taste now. Is that good or bad?\"

Same here. I quite like synthetic brushes for their stiffness but hate the fact mine loose their points so fast. I remember Margo mentioning using a specific brand though. The ones I have are Talens (great drybrush brushes by now), Leow Cornel <sp?> and CIVO (don\'t ask). Using brush care soap helps though.

By the way, why was it again that ordinary soap can damage brushes? There was something about it dissolving something in organic hairs or so. Fat?

Depends on the brand. I use White Sable series by Robert Simmons and they last even longer than good natural brushes. One thing that\'s also excellent about them is that they have a very sharp point that doesn\'t fishtail and such.

Aham, especially when your lips, and tongue, and even teeth (outch) are deep navy blue ... what an aesthetically pleasing sight! And quite a fashion statement, I must admit ... :D

But actually I do lick my brushes a lot less when using vallejo paint, it really as a bad tast compared to citadel colors. But I still find it\'s the best way to get a good point.

speaking of peer pressure...

I never was a brush licker, until it was discussed a couple of times on these very forums....

I tried it and found it to be actually very effective!

Now, that\'s also a bad habit (it looks a bit stupid when I forget to clean the paint off my thumb and go to work or the pub or something...), but at least I don\'t lick the brush.lol

I hear ya! (is this a swedish habit? :D)

I am Kevin, and I lick brushes.

But I know of no other way to point the tips correctly.

But, it is better than smoking. After I quit, I chewed the handles off of several brushes. I now wonder if they use non-toxic paint on paint brush handles?

Stands up... I\'m a brush licker and proud of it! There\'s nothing better then the taste of paint! ;)

Btw... I use my hand for wiping off paint when i\'m dry brushing.

Hello, I\'m Mirza and I\'m a brush licker ...
Y\'know, people I know told me, like, \"that really gets the job done... you won\'t have a better brush point...\", stuff like that...one day I gave in and took my first lick... :p
Well, I\'m hooked on brush licking as nothing I\'ve tried would give a better point... Is there some kind of brush-lick methadone?

Well, it\'s just the matter of finding the right clothes to go with it. And shoes. And hair. :D

By the way, I notice that a lot of people like the taste of GW paints. Funny, Cindy said the same thing. As to methadon, well, it was said that Vallejo tastes bad, so that could perhaps help. :)

I have never licked my brushes. And I am probably not going to. My brush gets the point by being dragged over a paper towel.

Hi, my name is Lloyd, and I\'m a reformed brush licker - but I did it by going cold turkey and as soon as I get my brushes here I\'m not going to start again - we have two kinds of water here - the kind you drink, and the kind you dont and I\'ll be washing brushes in the kind you dont!!lol
