After a month of feeling too woefully inadequate to bother putting paint on a mini, I have finally gotten myself trying to paint again.

The results:

I like this pic even though the lighting is horrible, it looks more like what I was aiming for:

First off I apologize for the offensively sloppy brown paint everywhere, It was a bad idea gone worse. beyond that I obviously have a long way to go on basic brush control, I need to continue to try to work with thinner paints, and I still need to learn how to actually blend.

Aside from all that, feedback is appreciated. What looks \'right\' what looks \'off\'? any suggestions on the depth of contrast or placement of highlights. I was trying to replicate a light source similar to the actual light in the 2nd pic.

I paint my thumb.
That second pic can actually clue you as to where the highlights would fall. It definitely need to go darker in shading, and more gradients. NMM is a tough contract at an early stage in your painting career, I dare not try it yet.
Keep it up.
