Mini Firsts

ScottRadom, nice Chaos Warrior figure, I look forward to the repaint.
Squig Hunter, a really nicely put together chronology. If you keep this up through the distractions of older tennagedom then you\'ll be a very impressive painter indeed :) (don\'t miss out! just paint too)

You both make the point that the last mini you painted before using CMON & other sites marks a point in your painting history, something I can see in my own work. The plastic Beastmen I bought to paint at the start of this most recent stint really show a difference. The little spearmen were painted pretty much in the same fashion as the previous decade or so but by the end for the command figures I\'d discovered Oz Painters through a Google search & there is a marked difference in approach - if not quality of final result :) I find it odd that since learning things online I\'ve discovered many of them in old White Dwarf magazines I read years ago, somehow they never stuck?! I suppose when I go back through them I rarely read anything, just look at the pictures lol

Joek, I remember when those plastic space marines came out, a friend had a box, spent more time glueing them back together after each game than painting. I never did like that snouty helmet though. I don\'t recognise the Elementalist but it looks a nice figure, the colours remind me of John Blanche\'s stuff. Worth redoing is my vote. I\'m not sure about the Minotaur, certainly one of the nicer ones but I saw a different version of this one http://www.coolminiornot.com/160377 somewhere recently & I like the sculpt a lot.

Hi Shadzar, unfinished minis? Oh boy yes. Of the hundreds of minis I own (but not, I suspect, a thousand yet) I\'d reckon two thirds have paint on but are not completed! Just the way I am I guess :) I\'m far more likely to feel like painting some turquoise, then dig about to find a figure to put some on, than I am to choose a particularly nice mini & plough through it to completion. I\'ll get distracted wanting to try mixing orange with flesh tones, or seeing how inks work over a grey basecoat, etc

Oh goodness yes unfinished minis are part of the game. I still have a Storm Giant with only Armory Flesh painted on it so far. But the first mini it would seem would be one to finish, unless it was a squad. Even if not happy with it like my Tau Chia Suit that was going horribly wrong. I still finished it to not have it cluttering up and be done with the horrid thing.

That feel of accomplishment when you are young getting it done when trying something new I guess doesn\'t exist for everyone.

So nothing wrong with unfinished minis, just \"firsts\" being unfinished if you are still in the hobby, seemed a bit odd to me.

I must be the odd one out in that I always finish the figures I start. If I do not like the way they turn out they get sold on quicker. BTW I did some diggin and while not my first figures I found some elves which are from late 80s early 90s (no one would buy them which is why they are still here).
The elementals where ace one each air fire earth and water the one you have is fire I had them all loved the air one was big fat belly blowing through his hands.... ah the good old days:rolleyes:.
I will try to take piccy of elves before I go off on Summer hols this Sat:bouncy:
