Mini Hall of Fame

Hey all!

We should start a \'mini\'- HALL OF FAME,

we could have inductees, awards shows, free pizza...

Well, inductees anyhow...

I would say the criteria should be

1. Someone (individual or company) who has contributed to the art of the mini (painter, sculptor etc.)

2. Well, I really only just had the first one....

I would like to nominate John Blanche and Mike McVey.
Both excellent artists in the \'early days\' of GW and Eavy Metal.

Any other nominees? Any other Criteria?

Have at it....;)

Ng Chern Ann

For conspicupously and generally contributing to the advancement of the art of mini painting by providing us this site!!!!

Oh yeah, and for Chrispy\'s sake, one additional criteria, your initials can\'t be J.H.:bouncy:

I heartily second Chern Ann\'s nomination (not that there\'s actually anything to nominate for yet, but still). This site is one of the best resources I\'ve ever had access to. In the last year alone my painting has visibly improved, largely due to tips, tricks and inspiration I receive here. I\'m sure there are dozens of you who can say the same. If that\'s not a contribution I don\'t know what is.

As for Haley, she\'s good. Maybe not the very best, but consistently better than most of us. But has she made stylistic contributions to advance the art? Has her unique personal style opened up new possibilities and inspired others to follow? I think that is more germane to this discussion than just her technical skill.

In that vein, I nominate victoria.

I wouldn\'t really argue...

Mr Such Agency, I have to fully agree with your logic, but after the challenge posed by Mr 22, there was no way I could resist. That\'s probably why I was expelled from schoollollol

What a cool idea

:cool::idea:

All the nominees already mentioned on this thread deserve to be inducted into the illustrious CMON \'hall of fame\':)

Might I nominate Jes Goodwin,

Arjay

& Chrispy for their contributions to the world of miniatures.

Chrispy, you can send me the cheque in the mail:)

Of course there are so many mini artists, promotors, designers and enthusiasts that should be included on this list.

Guys like Dr Faust who unconditionally share their knowledge with lesser experienced artists, thus helping to keep mini-painting alive and well.

The \'Gods\', \'cause these guys make us all strive to paint better by pushing the envelope and turning the unimaginable into the imaginable.

Guys who show the most improvement might also get a piece of pizza & an awards show. This may be a nice way of encouraging and nurturing the talent that exists.

My bent nickel:)

I think GW should be inducted into the Mini Hall of Infamy, at least for giving us something to rant about:mad: seriously, they do make a good game, and they are really responsible for making it so big. Warhammer is how I got stared, and everybody I know in the hobby started that way too. Anyways, I think Victoria should be inducted into the (non-existent) hall, for amazing lightsourcing. and i can\'t think of any others

I\'d like to nominate Cyril in the \'best use of colour\' category, Victoria in the \'new techniques\' category and Gael in the \'sculpting\' category, oh and JH in the \'lord grand high poobah of all things paint\' category. :D

can I second the nominations of Mike McVey, John Blanche and especially Jes Goodwin - as an ex-eldar player he has sculpted most of the models I own :)

Maybe Bobby Wong? his space marines always impress me even if some people are not entirely taken by his style you cannot fault him technically.

Hell Bobby and Jen Haley deserve to be in just for having useful articles on paint brushes :)

I was wondering that too. I thought I saw that in a comic book once many moons ago. But, I could be mistaken...

Hey guys, I\'m going across the Atlantic for this one

I must admit a soft spot for Brett deWald\'s (see \'karoath\' in galleries) work and would like him to be in the Hall of Fame for his Void Reapers - see the following link for some of his work:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/index.php?id=2972&c=All&m=All&nm=none

Also, once there, have a look at his websitre from the link under his work.

I remember when I was just starting out painting, I used to see his work in the early 90\'s in WD. Nowadays I actually talk to the guy! He\'s chuffin\' marvellous.

Brett, your induction to the hall of fame is complete :)

I guess GW/Citadel Miniatures should really go in. They did a lot for the whole hobby in the early days. Without that we\'d probably not have what we do today (lots of different companies, many producing such high quality work)! Without GW I wouldn\'t be on this site, I wouldn\'t be a good figure painter (bugger the false modesty!), and I wouldn\'t be earning a living from the only thing I really know! What more can I say? GW in you go!

I also agree with the logic presented by [No Such Agency]. There should be some criteria which stipulates an original or otherwise significant contribution to the hobby.

How about Joe Orteza (sp?) then. Anything he has modified is immediately recognizable. His sculpting is definitely unique.

Sounds like something Garth Ennis would have written...

Something something oranges something is from the classic comic \'DR and Quinch\' by Alan Moore (knows the score!). Where exactly it comes from I\'ll leave you to find out. If you have to read every \'DR and Quinch\' episode to find it then it\'ll be time well spent.

You may now rest. :D

Hi,

I agree with all the nominations so far, I wish to nominate Tom Meier and Sandra Garrity for their amazing sculpts and also Larry Elmore and Clyde Caldwell for their wonderful paintings that then were translated into some of the best Ral Partha miniatures. Also TSR in general for creating an RPG market that led to a wider market for fantasy miniatures.

:]

Did he recently use this line in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? Cause I know I\'ve seen that line, but I\'ve never read the comic you speak of.... :) (sorry for the OT posting, folks)
