Mini of the Month Club

My wife participates in a club where at the beginning of the year she pays for all the fabric and then each month she is issued the required parts to make that months quilt square. At the end of the year you have all the parts required to make a quilt.

This got me thinking, is there a mini of the month club? A place that would send you one mini a month and after a set time you would have a full unit? Even someplace that just promotes one mini a month heavily with the idea that you would get this one done in a month because a new one is coming? Maybe a LGS that does this?

Is this a good idea, bad? I know for the quilt store the customer has to come in once a month. This would be handy for a LGS as you would either get a guaranteed customer once a month or a prepaid mini sitting on your shelf that is never going to get picked up.

A perfect example is if these groups got sent one mini at a time.

the closest thing i have seen to that sort of thing was a lead miniature collection ( 1 every month ) of ww1 and ww2 figures, witch lasted ages, but they came already painted. it was called men at arms or something like that.

Del Prado press are famous (or is it infamous) for this concept.
Mostly they are overpriced with a relativly cheap intro offer and high prices for the rest of the series. They did a Radio controled car series a few years ago which worked out at £200 more than buying the same car from a proper model shop.

There are the DC & Marvel comic book character books but I\'ve only bought a few that appeal to me from either set.

That\'s who I was thinking of when I read the original post! I always wondered if those things were good value or not, and it seems like my suspicions were correct.

Wouldnt really work with mini\'s the postage cost is almost as high as most mini\'s (at least from independants).

Closest thing is probably the mini exchange where you blind swap mini\'s every 3 months or so.

I love working out what the total bill comes to with these, sometimes the final price is shockingly high.

Edit: 2000th post :bouncy:

It\'s the same with all the ads for cheap mobile phones. When you read the fine print and see how much higher the monthly fee is and how long the binding time is you can check how much the phone REALLY costs. It\'s not as tempting then...
