And here we go ...

Its that time again and I know quite a few of you have been impatient to get on with the third Miniature Exchange!

This is the biggest M.E. that we\'ve had to date with 50 participants from all over the world.

I\'ve tried to accomodate those that wished to send within their borders and without, but if I messed anything up or missed anyone, please let me know immediately so that it can be take care of. Hopefully I got it right on the first go.

Special thanks to Ian and Maya (Ilynx and Valloa) who have taken special interest in seeing that the Miniature Exchange has a place to call \'home\' and host all of our pictures in particular. Maya organized much of it behind the scenes and Ian was gracious enough to step up to the plate and provide us with a gallery to showcase. Big thanks to those of you who have offered to provide miniatures to those that are unable, or to fill in for anyone who\'s miniatures go missing. Appreciate that.

Alrighty now, lets get to the good stuff!

Most of you have participated in one of these already, and I\'ve explained it as best as I can in previous posts, but I\'ll go over the basics real quick to bring everyone up to date.

All that is required is ONE miniature though many people do more. Don\'t feel put upon to find the biggest and most expensive thing that you have to impress someone. Find something you are willing to part with and send it on its way.

New miniatures are NOT required, nor boxes or blisters. The whole idea behind this was to send something that you had sitting around, for many of us, that means miniatures that we\'ve had sitting in drawers for years and have never gotten around to. New miniatures are cool if that is what you want to do, but it is not required at all.

Send \'bare\' miniatures if you can! Its alright if they\'ve been stripped or if they have been cleaned properly and primed lightly, but most of us have our own \'way\' of doing things so its best to send something that doesn\'t require any stripping at all. No painted ones please.

Hopefully by now, everyone has a few miniatures ear marked as possible choices for their partner. Send what you want, but if you want to take that extra step and go through their gallery and see what their preferences are, go for it.

Now the most important thing, atleast to me, is that you send the miniature out in a timely manner. We understand that life jumps up and bites at times but you\'ve signed on to this knowing you are to send something out. If you can have it off within the next few days (say by next Wednesday) I think that would be fantastic as this would give everyone plenty of time to work on their miniature. Some of us are slow painters, or have busy lives, so all the extra time that we get is helpful. As soon as you send off your package, PLEASE send a PM to the recipient so that they know to expect it.

If for some reason packages become lost or other unexpected trouble arrises, please let me know, as I and several others have enough miniatures on hand that we are quite willing to fill in. Don\'t be embarrased to speak up.

Now, below is the list of names and your sending partner. It works like this. The person at the top, sends to the person below them, and so forth and so on down the line. The last person sends to the person at the top (QuietManes sends to Praetorian0_1, Praetorian0_1 sends to Blackfly ... etc ... Valloa sends to Quietmanes).

I encourage you to send your address or request the address of the individuals that are sending to you and that you are sending to. Don\'t wait around, get it done and send it off so that packages can be labeled and sent off. Don\'t publish addresses to the forum, as most of us enjoy our privacy.

I\'m not going to send out mass messages like last time as that took me almost two hours then (laughing) so make certain to contact each other amongst yourselves, that will keep it to two messages each at most, instead of fifty-one message for me.

I know some people have had problems with PM, or figuring it out, but its fairly simple.

On the front page of CMON (the gallery) hit \'Messages\' and then it should come up with your list of received messages if you have any. There is also a blank box there. Type in the persons name you want to send to and his Enter. It will then pop up another window (if you have pop up blocker on, you might want to disable it, or allow CMON pop ups) and then you type in your message and then his \'SEND\'.

Should take care of it.

Yeah, I\'ve never posted things internationally either, but I think my sister has, so I\'ll talk to her when I get home. Hopefully, I can get my landlord\'s wife to help me on the post. They have an internet store that they run out of the basement of the house I\'m renting, so maybe I can have them post a box for me and pay them back for it.

...and Blackfly lucked out! He can just drop off stuff to me when Seattle Area Painters (tm) meet up! Cheater!

It just came to my attention that the private messages bunch everything together into one paragraph. This means that it ignores breaks in your messages and can bunch the address you are sending into one line. This makes it confusing as to how your address should be constructed on the post for your particular country.
I think this is confusing to alot of people who never sent mail across the pond and thought it might not hurt to show how an address should be put on your post.
As I live in the states I can show you how the US normally recieves posts:


For the US the address is normally handled as such:

(recipients name)
(street address)
(apartment number or modifier if any)
(City) (state) USA
(Zip code)
You don\'t need to add the USA if the post is domestic, but a post from overseas should add it.

Example:
Lurch Adams
1234 W Mini St.
Apt 4a
Lenexa, KS USA
66213-5420

Zip codes can be 5 to 9 digits long. USA is starting to use longer Zip codes and currently 9 digits is prefered, but if you only have 5 digits, your post will still get there

Postal box addresses look the same. Just replace the Street address with the PO box number:

I should of addressed this, thanks Lurch. As another note to this, I tend to put --- before and after address lines to show the break. For instance.

--- Nathan Caroland --- 111 Turnpike Alley --- Get\'erdone, TX. 30101 ---

That would hopefully come across to the other person as:

Nathan Caroland
111 Turnpike Alley
Ger\'erdone, TX. 30101

Might help, might not.

For those sending internationally from USA, the postage is not outrageous. To send up to 4 mini blisters in a small global priority envelope, the cost is $4.00 to Canada and $5.00 to almost the rest of the world. This gets it there in 5-7 days. I always include a certificate of mailing (if doing eBay but not necessary here) for $0.90 as proof it was sent. Exceptions are Italy and some other countries (not on our list) where Global Priority is unavailable so it has to go air letter post if they want to see it before next Christmas. Sending it air letter post costs about $3.45 and gets there in about the same length of time. You must fill out a customs form (long skinny green and white one) and, true, mark it as gift to avoid having the recipient standing in line at the postal facility to claim a box with loads of custom fees attached. I personally don\'t check any box (gift, merchandise, etc) and haven\'t had a problem in 6+ years. I guess they assume it is a gift. Best to be safe and check that box. Here\'s to fast delivery everywhere.

Can\'t believe I\'m receiving and sending to my own continent! At least mailing will be easy (and hopefully stress-free), after reading about some of the recent problems with the Tsunami Relief stuff, I guess this is a good thing.

Yeah, pop-up blockers will mess with the U2U messenger I think. Mine come up as a pop-up, which I have disabled at home, but not here at work. ^_^

I get to send stuff to kittykat. Wonder if I have any small dragons hanging out. Only ones I think I have right now are some of the WotC boxes.
