Miniature Mentor Sculpting Videos, are they any good? Which ones do you have? Before I buy one, I’d like to get a review or some feedback. For sculpting there are three of four out now.

First one “Basic Sculpting” seems to be a little general and if I remember it was focused on make a shield and sword.

Second is Miniature Sculpting with James Van Schaik, and the rest of the videos, I have, not heard anything about?

OK, I will give you my experience of the company, not the product. I found them very bad. OK to take your money, but when you have a problem, and they don't like it, your on your own. Other have had positive, but there are others out there, that wont touch their stuff either.

I haven't seen the Mikh one, but I do have the Aragorn Marks video. It was pretty good, I enjoyed it and it was pretty well done. The only complaint is that it seems like they got about 3/4 of the way done and realized they had to wrap it up so there's quite a bit at the end that got left out. Overall I'd say it was worth it though. It's very clear and easy to see what's going on.

I had the MM subscription so I had a chance to get all of them. The Basic video for the sword and shield is VERY basic and if you're looking to create an actual mini, I'd avoid it. Overall, the video doesn't have much value.

The video with James Van Schaik is quite good and detailed showing you how to do a sculpt with green stuff. He uses a premade mini armature though (skeleton) so if you can't get a hold of that, you would need to make one yourself which can be complicated.

The video with Aragorn Marks is IMO the best one. He works with fimo instead of green stuff and goes through the process of making a mini armature using wires. Overall, it's the most comprehensive video and I'd recommend this one out of the lot.

Last video is the one showing you how to do extensive conversions on a dreadnought. This one is more specialized so unless you had to do a similar project, I'd pick up the Aragorn Marks vid.

Hope that helps.

Well they said sometime this year in an earlier newletter but I'd never trust their release time lines. Some of their stuff has been in "Coming Soon" status for months. One of the reason I cancelled my sub, their releases are so infrequent that it's cheaper to buy the actual videos separatly.

Never heard of the Subscription before, so for $70.00 and you get all the movies that you can download and keep, then you can cancel you subscription before the first month, is there a catch, beside the possibility of problems that Atacam has had? Sounds too good?

I purchased the one by Van Shaik (I think that is his name) where he sculpts the woman holding the large gun. It was a very helpful video and I learned alot of techniques from it that have helped me vastly improve my abilities for sculpting. I am going to purchase the video about sculpting the barbarian sometime soon too.

If you do not care to spend alot of money on sculpting videos though visit www.figurines-tv.com They have several sculpting videos that I have been extremely helpful for free. Allan C has a video on there as well as many others and they are all very good.
