Miniature Painting CD

For almost a year I have been secretly working on a CD about painting miniatures. Now it\'s finally so close to the release that...well, it\'s not secret anymore.

It all started out as an idea spawned from wondering, what would be the best way I could help all the painters, asking question through my website, cmon, events, etc. And then slowly it just got bigger and bigger.

And now I can finally present the demo for the final product. You can download it for free here, and also find out more about the final version:

Wow, this looks very professional and everything. I have to say I\'m impressed and I\'m looking forward to buying the final version (okay, depending on how much it\'ll cost). Really cool to see how the real artists work.

There\'s one thing though: What makes this demo so big? So many MB\'s just for a vid and some pics? Or is it the full version and we just have to unlock it by buying the key?

Whatever. Hope you sell a lot!

Roundabout 35 Euros or $40, he says on a different page. Now that\'s not too bad, actually, not for a \'book\' that illustrates how to paint masterclass stuff, instead of drybrushing and washing. I\'m writing it onto my gf\'s Christmas list, the one she doesn\'t know about yet. :D

Edit: I do prefer more standard interfaces, with less glitz and glamour - things should work the way I expect them to. I have particular dislike for applications that insist they are in control of the full screen and then display small boxes in the middle, wasting my 1280x1024 completely. :( However, the content is beautifully produced. :)

Excellent job. There isn\'t much on the demo but the shoulder pad video is pretty good. I think $40 is a little steep but I will consider buying the full version because of all the full length videos. Thanks for sharing.

Sorry to disagree James, but I think 40 dollars is a compeltely reasonable fee.

I\'ll gladly buy one. Tis very very cool!

I remember someone named Thai Pug did the samething on eBay years ago. I would love to look at your CD. Its doesn\'t hurt to look ar other people\'s techniques.

Wow, what a great idea! I\'m severely tempted... as long as shipping doesn\'t end up being insane on top of the $50 CDN... It doesn\'t seem overpriced considering the work that must have gone into it, at any rate!

quote from the site:
Miniature Painting CD will be priced at approximately €35 / $40 including shipping and handling.

So it looks shipping and handling is taken care off.... not sure if it\'s worldwide.

Thanks for all the nice replies. Seems there is a couple of questions that I can answer:

There\'s one thing though: What makes this demo so big? So many MB\'s just for a vid and some pics? Or is it the full version and we just have to unlock it by buying the key?

The full Version will be around 700 mb\'s. The reason the demo is so big, is because of the \'engine\' running the program. Besides there is actually quite a lot pictures, even though it\'s only a demo. The final version will pack around 400 pictures in total.

I think $40 is a little steep

Sorry to hear that. The 40 dollars does include shipping though (worldwide). And with the costs (there is quite a few people that need payement + software + production cost), It\'s impossible to do it cheaper.

This is the biggest collection of step-by-step guides ever released, and the blood-tutorial in the demo is the smallest. Most other consist of around 9 steps.

Looks pretty good. I wonder if there will be updates to install.

It is patchable, which makes us capable of updating. Besides I will off course keep on making tutorials for my homepage. In the same quality as on the CD, but covering other areas.

Sincerely

- Rune

I don\'t know... let me be honest: I downloaded the demo and didn\'t like it. I am sure that a lot of work went into it, and I am also sure that you are a better painter than I\'ll ever be ;) BUT. I don\'t like the menu, it has a slightly confusing navigation and the music really got on my nerves after a mere 30 seconds... at the moment, your video tutorial is not helpful at all, as I can\'t really see what\'s going on. The whole \"engine\" seems unnecessarily bloated, with shiny buttons and stylish effects - of course that\'s a personal thing, but I have no use for things like this. Gimme a list any day ;) Also, I don\'t like Quicktime :p

Well... having said that, I can\'t really see myself buying the full version.

You can turn off music ;)

The thing I like the most is the video, I think this has the potential to be very handy. Articles are good, but to actually see the way the paint is applied is something a bit special

@Kaple, you\'re painting skills are extremely impressive. It looks like a lot of work has gone into this, I think $40 is a very reasonable price, especially if shipping is included. How many videos can we expect in the full version?

Cheers

Matt
