Brush Tips Video

Hey Kaple,
Great to see. I\"ve been wondering for some time now why you can\'t get miniature painting instructional videos/DVD\'s. So it\'s great to discover that you\'ll be releasing this CD pack soon. I\'ll be sure to order one.

One thing that I\'ve always wanted to see as a mini painter is footage of my favorite painters actually painting. I guess because I\'m a guitarist and have bought guitar intructional videos with my heroes showing me how they do this and that guitar riff, I felt it would also be cool to see my mini heroes doing the same only with a brush rather than a pick.

Anyway. Cool stuff Kaple. Thanks!

I am not sure I understand your question?

It\'s a programme with tutorials comprised of text, still-image and movie content. From what I saw in the demo, the mix of media types is well balanced. Indeed, from what I saw, the content is mind-blowing. :flip: But I still detest a user interface that assumes I will be doing nothing else with my computer and so takes over the entire screen to display a postage stamp of useful content in the middle. :(

Just got mine!!!

Excellent service!!! It was waiting for me when I got home last night!

Only got a chance to give it a real quick once over, but it appears to be worth every penny. Thanks, Kaple

I remember seeing frenchkid hoping so, and so am I. I mean... video footage? Photos? Article documents? What, in that, is on this that couldn\'t be cross-platform compatible, apart from some proprietary interface that doesn\'t, from what I\'ve read so far, seem to be entirely necessary?

huh, there\'s been a lot of fuss about the \'mac-factor\' ... The program used to compile the CD (Macromedia Director) is only PC compatible. We made this decision to create as safe a user interface as possible, without the complications it would involve to make it multi-compatible.

So I can only give all the Mac-users a big apologize, I am sorry to have let you down... But it was a calculated decision. Oh yeah.... and we are also sponsored by Microsoft (NOT!!! ;) )

What is a \"safe\" user interface?

Kaple, there are so many ways to compile such a load of data, I just don\'t get it why you chose this Macromedia Director Program... this is not an attack, it\'s actually a question.

Ask my programmor, is the short answer... I am really not that much into the programming part. But as far as I have understood Director is widely used and updated many times. Therefore we could count on not running into new, weird problems. That\'s why it was safe.

But it seems to me that it\'s really a matter of taste, I personally don\'t know other ways to do this, since I have never worked on anything similar before. But hearing you not liking it, I am sure that you have some insight-knowledge about making interfaces that I haven\'t. As I said I really don\'t have any clues about programming.
The cd is not published by me at all, but by a Danish Book-Publisher, so they where kinda the bosses. I was doing graphics/photos/basic text and off course the painting parts.
Personally I think Director is doing a great job setting up a simple user interface that just works. The important thing on the CD is the information, and I think that is delivered nicely, without too much nonsence.

I\'m with Mosch, in that I\'m certainly not trying to come off as rude, but rather am genuinely interested. I don\'t want to criticize the discs, I just want to figure out a way I can use them so that I can buy them, too! :)

I understand you\'re not a programmer, Kaple, so I don\'t expect you to have all the technical answers; that\'s fine. But like you just said yourself, it\'s the information that\'s the important thing. And the information could easibly be accessible on either any platform, PC or Mac (or Linux, for that matter) -- meaning anyone, on any system, could run the movie files, looks at the photos, open the article documents... It\'s only the Director-made interface that\'s preventing those of us not on PCs from purchasing your discs and accessing your information.

While I\'m sure I already know this answer, I figure it won\'t hurt to ask, anyway: Could it perhaps be possible to purchase discs that contain only the information -- meaning, for example, a folder full of video files and a folder full of photos and a folder full of articles?

It\'s wishful thinking, I\'m sure, but -- hypothetically speaking -- the effort to produce would be nil, as you already have all the files themselves. Charge the same price, so you\'re still recouping all your original development costs, and add a disclaimer at purchase time that a \"bare bones\" disc like that comes with no interface and no support (not that any should really be needed). Then all the rest of us out here could still have access to all the information, which is the important thing. Sure, it might be a little tougher on us to sort through it all without the nice interface but, based on the quality of your painting and what others have been saying about the quality of the information on the discs, I for one would be willing to make the effort.

Hey, a mini painter can dream, can\'t he?

**EDIT**

Silly me, I should have asked this first, because perhaps I can already get what I want: Can someone (Kaple, or anyone who already owns the discs) tell me if the data files are accessible through folder browsing? i.e., Is one able to open the disc contents in a window and navigate through folder find the movies, photos, etc. themselves in the directory listings? If so, then I can already get what I was asking for above, and I\'d go ahead and purchase the discs anyway. But of course, I\'d want to know that it\'s possible, first.
