alright, for my project i have to include a poll or survey...

so. i had thought about doing \"how many hours do you paint a week\" but i remember seeing that on the fourms already

so heres the question

\"all things considered (price, time spent, ect.) is miniaturing painting \"worth it\" (it being price time spent ect...)

and i really need as many votes as possiable....

and as always ladies and gents...thanks for all your help!

Mini painting keeps me sane and provides a release from school and work for me. I can paint from 8pm-4am most nights without being bothered, which is a rarity around my house. Also I get paid to paint for people so I make my spending back in full and then some. Just my $.2. Good luck with the project.

Its definetly worth it, it can be quite expensive but then again money is\'nt everything (very useful though). Surely if your answer is no then why are you doing it.

I find it worth it, although I do not spend that much a month on painting. Luckily I have been able to get away from playing wargames, which are expensive. I usually just paint stuff for my D&D games. Also I mainly paint Reaper mini\'s so the expense is not that bad $3-$10 a mini.

yup, it keeps me sane and my eyes away from a screen (as my other way of keeping sane is computer games:p). As ffor price is can be expensive but oh well considering time spent on it I definetly think it\'s worth it. And there\'s nothing quit like having somthing you can say you did and be prouf of it :D

I don\'t know who you\'d get to vote no, but still does it. Mini painting seems like one of those things it takes more dicipline to keep painting/improving, than to stop yourself from doing too much of. Compaired to say something like EQ which draws you in and keeps you there even beyond the point you gain enjoyment from it (from personal experience).

This got a yes from me.

Excuse me if I sound rude, but what a daft question! I love sitting next to my mini cabinet looking at the stuff I\'ve painted, I love buying minis, I love looking at other peoples minis. I like paint. Mixing it, stirring it, dipping brushes into it, putting it on stuff. I get to buy tools, sharp things, pointy things and squodgy putty-like things.

I even enjoy the taste of acrylic paint.....:D

Hmm, after 25 years and the monkey gods only know how much money, time spent painting toy soldiers, scars and such, basically, I can say yes, I enjoy it.

Nope. That\'s why I build terrainlollollollollol Terrain is way more lucrative. Now don\'t you painting gods decend on my little villagers.
I paint mainly for myself. In the end it is worth it to look at the army, but I had to find something to suppliment the massive expence of this hobby. So my vote is more in the middle- but... Oh yeah and I am literally 3/4 blind sans specs- thats new too- nearsighted like a bugger now. I am basically blindfighting in martial arts tourneys these days- still win though. Peoples\' tendons creak alot more than you think, the rest is guesswork and the force. That\'s from close up work.
Hey were\'s Mr Yao when you need him to weigh in;)

If it wasn\'t for the mini-painting, I would never have found this site, and one of the best forums on the web.

I think it really depends on what you imply by \"worth it\". Say, I wouldn\'t ever consider miniature painting as even a secondary source of income, because I like spending a l-o-o-o-ot of time on painting. And if I start thinking of it as of a money-making process, it\'s highly inefficient -- in the period of time spent on a single mini I\'d be able to write quite a few articles, which, naturally, would give more money. So, for me personally it\'s not about money.

But I do enjoy mini painting a lot as a hobby. And when I think of it as a hobby, it is efficient. Because it brings joy and because it\'s fun :)

Altough Becca\'s asked a somewhat closed question it\'s the replies that provide the greatest insight for her project.

I would suggets that most of us paint for a number of reasons;

To earn a living (Freelancing)
To relax (It is relaxing and a lot better than sitting in front of the idiot maker [TV])
To aid in an additional hobby (Roleplaying)
To have an Artistic outlet (Sorry Tammy)
To maintain the illusion of our childhood not being totaly over. (That\'s for the older ones out here)

Also for me it provides a means towards Meditation.

@WiccanPony: Why would you need to be on the streets? Surely with our skills you should be able to entice them to you? ;)

@Freekinacage: Thankfully GW is not the be all and end all of mini\'s. Have a look at some of the Perry Twins Border Reivers. 40mm, excellent sculpting and £3.00 per figure.
