minis with dreadlocks or how to sculpt them?

hi all. I\'m having a go at sculpting a mini with dreadlocks and I\'m not sure what the best way would be to go about it. So, i figured i would look at other minis to see how the sculptor(s) handled the problem but i cannot find any to look at. anyone got any suggestions on either finding minis with dreadlocks or how to sculpt them.
Cheers all

I did one but I haven\'t got photos anymore and I didn\'t put it in my gallery.

It\'s really easy to do, I filed the hair down on the figure then just rolled loads of sausages of putty.
Then attach them to the top of the head. I then used a clay shaper to dimple them slightly and give them a wee bit of texture.

Peace and love...

*EDIT* Found a pic on photobucket:

the second is my first attempt at sculptin\' anything...
i just driled holes in the head, glued in some fine wire, and pressed some green stuff around \'em...
not the best result, but i learned what not to do...

hope that helps...

I have read a bit about making hair from greenstuff on dakkadakka, I think. While with the hair you usually put on the GS and make the waves from the blob to give hair, nobody has made dreads yet, but I think a good way would be start like making chain.

Make a GS rope. Decide if you are going to make corn-rows leading into dreads or just individual dreads.

If corn-rows, just place the rope on the forehead of the mini, and gently get it to touch over to the back of the head, and cut it to the length you want. Continue, until you have all your dreads in palce.

Otherwise, take your rope and position it somewhere on the top of the head, and continue going down the side/back/front of the head, until the dread is the right length. Continue around the head until you have your dreads in the right place and some attached to the whole head.

If the GS hasn\'t firmed up too much by this time, you could actually give it a few strands per dread, or make it look like actual rope rather than just a flimsy long cylinder of green stuff.

NOTE: I haven\'t tried this, but would seem the easiest way to do it to me.

Just remember to do the ends of the dreads into the individual hairs a bit so it doesn\'t look like a clear line chopped off when you cut the dread from the rope, but looks more like actual hair.

Are you looking at natural dreadlocks or braided hair plaits such as \"cornbraids\"?
Theres a massive difference as the Cornbraids are groomed into shape and Dreadlocks are the natural result of not combing but still washing and allowing natural \"coils\" of hair to form.

Jahman is probably the best expert on Dreads I can think of, as the only person I knew who had dreads has long since cropped them off.
Googling dreadlocks as images gives some results which look rather like the fibrous outer husk of coconuts in texture through to soft wool.
