Misheard song lyrics

Mate of mine thought \"I\'m Your Man\" by Wham was \"Drive Your Van\" and \"Denis, Denis\" by Blondie was \"Toneet\'s The Neet\" (makes sense if you\'re a Northerner). He used to sing these full belt and genuinely didn\'t believe us when we told him the true lyrics.

@Undave. Republica wasn\'t a girl band. Only the singer was female.

EDIT: This will be the song you\'re on about.

Can\'t remember the singer...but the song goes: \"There\'s a bad moon on the rise\"

Always sounded like: \"There\'s a bathroom on the right.\"

It doesn\'t matter how many times I hear this or how attentively I listen, the lyrics never sound like what the supposedly \'correct\' version is to me!

It\'s his lisp. It throws almost everyone.
There\'s even a comedy sketch about it.

\"high on a hill lived a lonely goatturd\"

that killer queen song also has a line in that i\'ve heard a lot of different interpretations of. none of them were right though. even the first hit on google has it wrong if you search for \"killer queen lyrics\"

for the record it\'s
she\'s a killer queen
gunpowder gelatine
dynamite with a laser beam.

There was a Catatonia song that had a chorus that I thought it was \'They came out warm\'. Had never heard the phrase \'Make hay, not war\' before, hence the confusion.

I love these threads! And I agree with Avelorn, not having english as a first language really makes for some great misinterpretations.

My favourite:
Blind Melon\'s \"No rain\" goes
\"..I like watching the puddles gather rain\", but I always sang \"...
I like watching the poodles gathering
\". Hahaha!

Aah, the images it conjures! Why are they gathering? What do they want? World domination?

For years it sounded like \"I\'m a pool hall ace\" when in was \"My poor heart aches\"

You\'ve reminded me... The Police\'s \'Message In A Bottle\' and the line in particular, \"A year has passed since I wrote my note\' I thought was \'A year has passed since I broke my nose\'

Nice one Evil Dave. Of course, some of the lyrics are clearer than others but they had to make something else up for them for the whole \"translation\" to work. I\'m sure I get a lot of lyrics wrong. I do seem to have a problem with hearing what people say, as shown in the listening tests for French at school. Of course, I listen to various kinds of extreme metal so for a lot of those I\'ve got no chance to know what they\'re growling/shouting/barking/screaming.

Just seen it again and reminded me...
But does this:

Does it sound to anyone ELSE like he\'s saying:

\"God is dead\" lol

Another one I sometimes find myself singing (albeit intentionally wrong) is Mica\'s(sp) \"Big girl\'s you are beautiful\" as \"Biggles, you are beautiful\" - I think Biggles deserves a little reassurance sometimes.

hahahaha

\"Big Girl\" is my anthem at the moment and that made me laugh right out loud.

for me, most people make fun of my The Killers, \"Mr. Brightside\" screwup.

the line goes \"Choking on your alibis\"
what becca hears goes \"Choking on your apple pies\"

and thats the way I used to sing along to it.

whoops.
