Modelling a plasma blast

Hi all,
this my first post on this forum, I hope someone can help.
I need some help/suggestions on how to represent a plasma blast that has been fired from a plasma pistol.
I want to model the blast coming from the pistol and hitting its target.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I just used bailing wire for and Pro Create.
