Modelling Link from Zelda

Hey guys, and girls for that matter!

A friend of mine is a huge fan of the Zelda games, and Link in particular, so I was thinking about painting her up a miniature Link. Now to the problem... anyone have an idea for a model that would serve as a decent starting point for this project?

I\'m not exactly awesome with green stuff. I figure I could probably model that silly little hat he has, but no major sculpting adventures... I have a feeling that would end in tragedy!

For your reference, here are some pics :)

That sounds cool, and obviously, something I\'d be interested in.

I\'d suggest you look at Thunderbolt Mountain, their elves are modeled in tunics already. Most have bows, but you could always add a sheathed master sword.

Thanks for the tip! Those are actually the closest to a decent match I have found, this one in particular. The cloak looks rather weird though, with how it ends, and that... hood, or whatever it is, looks really strange, lol.

I\'d welcome more suggestions :)

Great! Except, doesn\'t that one have... you know... <looks around> boobs? Maybe that\'s just my imagination... Elves never looked much like men to me ;)

Excellent site that though, many promising models!

This one I think is best so far :)

The problem with that model, to me, is the cloak... I am seriously considering trying out buying some plastic glade guard from GW. They should be easier to convert, and since they come on a sprue, if I mess up I\'ll get another chance or two, hehe :)

That\'ll give you a good variety of heads too. Keep in mind, and most people miss it, Link is left handed.

I\'m working at my usual pace, so it\'s time for an update. I ended up using a wood elf glade guard as a base, cutting off all details except the wrist guards and boots, and then sculpting new hair and clothes. You can tell I\'m no expert sculptor though, hehe... Actually this is my first!

EDIT: Sorry about the picture quality, had to use my camera phone, broke my real camera in Australia ><

So, here\'s the unpainted, but finished model:

And here he is with some paint. I wouldn\'t say he\'s finished yet, but it\'s getting close. I\'ve also made a shield for him I am trying to paint next. We shall see...

Comments and criticism is very welcome!

Should be proud of that fella.
Certainly looks like Link.
Thought you\'d struggle finding a suitable elf but it\'s pretty much spot on.
Look forward to seeing it finished.

That\'s great! I\'m really glad to see you update this one. I\'m kind of looking to do something similar perhaps maybe, either way I have an LoZ related project coming soon.

Great job there.

Link looks great! Can\'t wait to see him finished. I\'m a big Legend of Zelda fan.

For the longest time I wanted to make a table with the entire Hyrule Field on it from Ocarina of Time. I know that will never happen :(

I also wanted to do a smaller project of the waterfall area outside Zora\'s Domain. That\'s a cool landscape.

@ theomar: no, im not psychic, but the temple of time is probably the most iconic zelda location EVER. who can forget when they got the three stones and (removed in case of spoilers) before kicking more arse as link.

oh yeah,

Well Rosac, it\'s not exactly the Temple of Time from Ocarina, just a non-denominational church decked out with the Tri-Force. Still, it\'s clearly Zelda enough that it can\'t be denied.

Anyways, great job hckling. I\'m pretty excited about your Link. I didn\'t think it would have that much conversion in it, and with those boots, that was a great mini to start with. It made me realize I can\'t do the Temple without Link, but I\'m going to do mine as child Link. Thanks for inspiring me, never did a conversion before.

PS, here is the Hylian shield, I figure you\'ll need one.
