Models for my Fiancee

Right here is my problem. I am trying to convince my fiancee to start painting, but I only have GW minis (insert appropriate expression of shock and horror) This is mainly due to the fact that the mini stores near me only stock GW. So, here is my dilemma.

She thinks the GW mini\'s are ugly. (Brutish etc.) and I am looking for some nice graceful mini\'s that I can buy.

Does anyone have any suggestions. (If the shop will ship to South Africa, that will be a bonus)

Spyglass (I\'m a girly so I should know) or hasslefree. They both have really nice figures that aren\'t all about combat and fighting and brutish boys etc :D

Ask her to paint something pink for me lol

I think something from Spyglass would be a good place to start, or something by darksword - they are both very cool and much prettier minis than GW.

I saw this topic with your name on it on the front page of CMON Peter and I thought I\'d missed something.... ;) lol

Sorry, back on topic, I agree with the Spyglass or Darksword, I would also add that Reaper has some pretty nice \"non combat\" related minis, especially the villager minis they have produced. You might also check out some of the Andrea Miniatures stuff.

I agree you won\'t get much better for female figures than spy glass.

However there is one GW figure that I fell in love with from the Mordenheim range that Jen Haley did a fantastic paint job on and always reminds me of a porcelain doll.

I seem to recall seeing some great looking angels made by reaper. You could check that out and I\'m sure it would do the trick :p

If your fiancee is going to be painting her very first miniatures, I would suggest not starting her on something from rackham, just because most of those models have ALOT of filigree and I can imagine that I would have gotten exceedingly frusterated with such a model if it had been my first. I would also avoid some of the really busy reaper minis.

There are probably some options from games workshop: either of the bretonnian sorceresses, the some of the mordheim figures (the vampire slayer, for example). I personally think those gnobblars are about the cutest thing GW has put out recently.

Also consider the Lord of the Rings GW stuff, if your fiancee hasn\'t already nixed them. This is also a good idea if she\'s a LotR fan.. Some of the sculpts are better than others, but at least the character ones don\'t suffer as much from brutishness as the Warhammer ones.

I think that spyglass and hasslefree minis are good ones for starting, because they\'re smooth and simple, gives you space to work and make mistakes that are fixable.

I don\'t recommend starting with the darksword miniatures, because they tend to have much finer details and may be frusterating for a first-time painter.

But maybe your fiancee is someone who likes a challenge and would enjoy starting with something with alot of filligree or tiny details..:)

Hasslefree, nice clean \"easy\" sculpts.

Rackham are too complicated, they drive me insane and I\'ve been painting for 20 years...

Thanks for all the advice. I showed her some Rakham stuff this weekend and she seemed to like it.

Going to look around some more this week and see what else I can come up with. I like crocodile games, but will take some pics home and see what she thinks.

As far as the bretonnian damsel on the horse goes, she referred to her as a woes (think wimp but worse) for riding side saddle. My fiancee is an avid eventer, so something on Horseback would be an easier sell.

Crocodile games stuff is very good as well (I\'m temporarily addicted to at as well).

I find with hasslefree and spyglass they have softer lines than GW and rackham (not to say that doesn\'t have its plus points). Consider the Celtos line as well

Well my gf [before she got fed up because she wasn\'t brilliant right away ] Liked daemonettes and sisters of battle quite a lot...

Well my girlfriend likes the ones dressed up as firemen with big muscles, so maybe you could try those?
