I suggest go read up on Lincoln and FDR who threw out the constitution more times than the rest of our presidents combined.
Yet history looks upon them as great presidents.
I\'d be far more worried about our Congress and whoever the next president is.

Methinks thou doth protest too much.

I didn\'t mention any particular time period, person, or action that I feel is contrary to the Constitution.

Not protesting at all, just trying to head off the inevitable \" Bush SUXXOR. He\'s taking away my freedoms.\" that these discussions always seem to turn in to.
The reality is the American people have been willingly giving up their freedoms for decades.

I\'m well aware. I even agree with him on occasion.

However, his penchant for starting his posts with things like \'I suggest\' or \'the thing is\' or \'y\'see...\' typically leads to me going into \'I\'m being preached at\' mode and shutting out whatever he might say.
I apologize if you feel this way, however, since this is a written medium things such as tone are hard to convey.
I am naturally a talker, not a writer. I write how I speak, I work at a university where I must explain things every day, and I take into consideration that not everyone here who may be following the conversation is an American and that our laws and cultures are different, so when I suggest a topic, subject, or book it is so those following along can get a better understanding of our viewpoints.

As to how you feel about my posts or how I start them is, as you admit in your post, an internal reaction. You take it as you will. I\'m sitting here chuckling.

As to being \"preachy\" that is rather rich considering the fact that you have just condemned an entire religion and it\'s followers devout or not, in the face of people who have actually been to the Middle East and lived among them.
Almost sounds like a Southern Baptist Minister.

To the topic at hand: I somewhat believe Darth is right, Which is one of the reasons I\'m all for Democracy in the Middle East. Freedom promotes education. Education breaks the power of the Mullahs.

It\'s easy to be angry when you live in poverty, in a hovel, with maybe a goat.
Hell, why not become a suicide bomber?
What has this life got going for it?

Got a good job, a nice house, a car. Jihad ain\'t looking too fun.

Democracy/Freedom softens us.

Edit: I work with a guy from Turkey who became an American citizen. He is Muslim.
He\'s also a fiscally conservative Republican. Go figure.lol I think the only Jihad he would call would be on Hilary Clinton.lol

Some, perhaps.

Yes, I\'ve seen you use that argument before. The fact that I have means you either don\'t care that you come across that way or enjoy doing so.

Yes, I\'m sure.

I\'d let my post history here stand against yours any day of the week on that score, ED. And to act as if you haven\'t slammed entire groups of people at a swipe is probably the most entertaining thing I\'ve ever read from you. :)

I\'d be .

I happen to agree with you about being extremely concerned over the state of the American government as a whole; both in it\'s current and future form. As much as I dislike and disagree with certain policies under the Bush administration (i.e. his stance on Federal funding for embryonic stem cell research)... I am fortunate enough to know better than to place all of our society\'s ills solely at his feet.

I believe this country has been in a steady state of decline way before even George W\'s dad was in the White House, but in the end... any president that can manage to survive his entire term without causing us all to be glowing in the dark from nuclear fallout can\'t be an entire failure.;)

And one last point I am in total agreement with you on: I am \"far more worried about our Congress and whoever the next president is\".

So you think I should change my writing style because you (or others) thinks it sounds \"Preachy\"?
Honestly, no, I don\'t care, and I would never ask nor imply that you need to change something about yourself. I accept you for who you are.
We all have our different personalities, quirks and flaws, they are who we are.
You are basically asking me to change who I am to fit you.
Dude, I won\'t even do that for a woman.
I am what I am. Accept it or not.

I\'d let my post history here stand against yours any day of the week on that score, ED.
You do that, but before I went to the Navy, I read the history, and then I visited the people and the places. Books never give you the whole story, or even a slice of it.

And to act as if you haven\'t slammed entire groups of people at a swipe is probably the most entertaining thing I\'ve ever read from you. :)

I never, ever said I didn\'t, but then I\'m not the pot calling the kettle black am I?

I don\'t care if you change it or not. I\'m saying I think you come across as overbearing, and that I know I\'m not the only one. If you\'re fine with that, so be it. I\'ll continue ignoring most of what you say. I know I\'ll be fine with *that*. :) I wouldn\'t have mentioned it this time except that you quoted me directly, so it caught my attention. /shrug

Exactly the sort of thing I would have expected you to say. I have no intention of visiting the places. My opinion stands. /shrug I like the Good Will Hunting argument though.

Actually, if you\'d read your last couple posts, you\'d see that\'s exactly what you\'re doing. :) Now tell me I started it so we can continue the pointless back and forth. lol

Nah, I was actually gonna call it quits and just think of it as both having a bad day. No grudges here.
Seriously, though, If you think something I say may be a bit tactless, simply say so, either in the forum or in PM, if it was unintentional I have no problem apologizing.

Seriously, just tell me, I\'ve been working with scientists for the last ten years, we don\'t do tact and subtlety very well.lol

Oh, and one flaw, Good Will Hunting was fiction.:p
