I think he should get SOMETHING, but if he values their friendship, he drop the whole thing, and tell her he\'s sorry, and try to rebuild that friendship.

If sh values the friendship, she should split it.

Otherwise, I think they should both lose it, let it go to the education fund in their area, or better yet, the high school they went to together!

I reckon if you buy a property then you have bought the land, the building and everything that was left behind by the last owner, which in this case happens to be a lot of money.

Speaking of the last owners, if they\'re still alive they must be really kicking themselves having lived there and never found it, assuming the last owner wasn\'t the guy who put it there.

Contractors generally own and are responsible for the disposal of demo items. He was to demo the walls. The walls are his: the sheetrock, the studs, the electrical, the asbestos, the bag full of money, etc. If he had not said anything, he could have walked out rich.

Her property until it is hauled to the dumpster.

A judge will have to decide.

To be honest I\'d be much more interested in hearing about where it potentially came from than the story of two feuding friends. I mean that amount of cash in them days, you know there\'s gotta be some interesting tale behind it.

Neither person has a rightful claim to that money. It belonged to neither of them. Yes it was in the ladies house, but it wasn\'t hers, and she didn\'t know it was even there.

DF, I think that you\'ve got it right. The only people that will see any of this money is the lawyers.

Also it is my understanding that the original owner is dead with no wife or heirs, so the ownership of the money is up in the air.

And to think that the only things that my parents ever found in the walls where a 6pack of Grain Belt (missing one can), an American flag (48 stars), a cowboy hat, and a pair of men\'s underwear. Maybe this will get my father to finish the renovations in the family room, lots of plaster walling to be removed......

Heard something similar about a house in Burbank. Don\'t know if it is true or not, but here\'s the story:

Guy is remodeling this old, old house. Plaster walls and such, that the owner built himself. Original owner/builder was the owner of the local movie theater, so he used rolled up movie posters as insulation in the walls after the movies finished their run. The house was built during the \"golden age\" of cinema. Very old, very rare, and very collectible. New owner walks away with a wad and buys a better house.

Once when I was working at a customers house I removed a ceiling tile to run some wire through the drop ceiling.

In the way, I found several rather heavy stacks of silver bars.

After was all said and done with my wiring, I replaced the tile. As I was leaving, I mentioned to the customer....\"Oh, I had to move your silver bars to get to the wiring\"

The customer looked blankly at me, \"what silver bars?\"

I showed her, she\'d never seen them before.

Not sure what ever happened after that....hell, I don\'t even know if they were worth anything. But the did look impressive.
