Monolith

Monolith. Monolith. Monolith.

It\'s simply a fun word to say, and reminds me of that Simpson\'s episode with the Monorail.

Anyway, awhile ago I started a thread about my butt & ten marines. In that thread I complained about the size of the Rhino. K.

Well, since I was last around these parts, which was some time ago, I sort of got myself into building a Necron army. It all started with the Wraith.

\"That\'s a cool model,\" I thought, \"I\'d like to paint it,\" I thought, \"but not get into collecting a whole army.\" Ya\' right--like how could I even believe myself when I thought that.

So to say what I wanted to say, I am impressed with the Necron Monolith model. It is towering, huge, gigantic! Truly, it appears to live up to the images that its name invokes.

Still over-priced though, but I got a pretty good deal on the ole ebay, so I didn\'t have to pay the full GW price.

Someday I might actually even play this game...

If price is a worry, stay the hell away from GW! GW is extremely overpriced, while it may be true that they make great models, you will need to start thinking of the hobby as metal and plastic crack, all the stuff is things that you don\'t really need but can\'t seem to live without and they end up sucking every bit of spare cash from your life. Oh yeah, welcome to the hobby!

Hey thanks for the welcome.

Price isn\'t so much a worry per se. It\'s more something to complain about! But yeah, shortly after I got back into painting--a couple summers ago now--I turned back to good ole GW.

I used to, back when I was a lad, have some of the initial 40K stuff. The plastic Beakie marines, Orc Buggy, landspeader, landraider, some termmies, couple other odds n\' ends. The truth is, I like the fluff of the 40K universe, I like the sci-fi theme, and I like the range of models. So really, I\'m hooked, lined, and sinkered!

:D

And yeah, the crack thing is a good comparison.

But really, not much of the stuff in our consumer laden society is stuff that anyone actually needs. So I\'ll drop my cash on these plastic & pewter tiny warriors instead of something else equally pointless!

:bouncy:

ok- here comes Justification 101...

A video game is $75-95 . I cook through it in what- 2 months max... spend it on minis and you have them for life. You can get tons of guys for cheap (-$100) on ebay. Ba doomp boom.:D
By the time another two months is up, you\'ll wnat more/have the last ones done. Do it again. Pow- you then have an decent army.
Hell even the boxed army deals ain\'t bad when you look at it that way.;)
Note to self--- forward this to wifelol

Hey, IMHO, the Necrons are the BEST army to start with. They should have put it in the box set Battle for MyCrack. And if you think the Monolith is a good model, wait til you take it out on the battlefield, It is the best tank in the game.Bar none.

I have yet to see one that was painted really cool, can\'t say that about most of the other tanks.

Heh, yeah, they seem like a pretty decent starter army--pretty straight forward without much in terms of complications and quirks. I really like that they can teleport around the field with the Monolith &/or the Veil of Darkness. I mean, it sounds like it could be damn handy in the game.

And this \"Deep Strike\" thing that the Monolith & Flayed Ones have seems damn, damn useful too...I\'m looking forward to one day learning to play with the Necrons!

And yeah, I mean, the Monolith sounds totally deadly in terms of stats & capabilities. I mean, how can having it deep strike into the opposing army with all that Gauss Flux Arc Projectors hitting every unit close to it d6 times while it pumps out waves of Necron troopers not be seriously brutal on your enemy?

Maybe I should get a second one???
