More about yourself.....MUSIC!

About a year ago I asked people to suggest music for me to listen to because I\'d been married to the same man for almost 30 years and HE picked all the music I listened to. Most of it was \'70\'s R&B...good but I got sick of it and never really figured out what I liked myself.

Since then I\'ve listened to lots of stuff. I like metal and rock. I love a good guitar riff. Love the stones, grunge, Apocolyptica, old \'60\'s stuff. It\'s a pretty wide range actually. What I\'m not fond of is Rap and, probably due to over exposure, R&B. I\'m really enjoying my Pandora account and have it on in the background almost all the time.

What kind of music do you like and dislike? If you were to suggest something to me what would it be?

Blutengel! Really good vampire goth/electro/techno. Lucifer and Dreamland are my fav songs, but all their music is awesome. Labyrinth is my favourite CD, Oxidising Angel is really good too! Give it a listen, and let me know what you think

If you want something a bit crazier, go with Psyclon Nine. They are a pretty heavy industrial black metal group, definately an acquired taste.

You asked for it....

I\'ll get lots of abuse for this, but what the hell.....

A block of CDs I cut for my wife, culled from some of our favorite music.

Careful....you could eclectic-ute yourself....

wow i almost cannot believe it, another o my fav subjects- namedroppig cool and obscure bandnames!:D

have listen a lot to goth/deathrock and industrial/ebm/sünth *surprise!* my all time ever fav artist is the late american singer/songwriter rozz williams (christian death, shadow project). have been a die hard rozz collector for some yrs untill i found better use for my cash (minis!)

other favorites are (to choose a few) eh well i have.. um.. a rather large recordcollection so its hard to choose a few.. alien sex fiend, tragic black, madre del vizio, virgin prunes... but also stuff like jonny cash and 60s music works fine with me (im not so stuck-up, really! :) )

I prefer the instrumental and new-agey stuff, like David Lanz, or David Arkenstone, or Chris Spheeris. Vangelis and Kitaro are pretty safe favourites, and even Yanni, if you can stand the way he flicks his hair in video clips.

Lately, though, I\'ve found myself picking through the soundtracks to different games and anime. There\'s Akatsuki No Kuruma (Chariot of Dawn) from Gundam Seed, Getsurenka from Shadow Hearts 2, and the whole lot of soundtracks from Metal Gear Solid, especially the re-mastered The Best Is Yet To Come (which is sung in Gaellic).

Ah, Music!
Ok, there are few bands I cannot listen to, In my eyes everyone should stay away from the old Swedish synth(?) band Megaton. (first impression: their album cover was painted like a target with red and yellow bands and in the middle you saw an angry licorice head. It doesn\'t get better.) And I\'m not talking about the Spanish Metal band, those just might even be good in a few obscure circles.
Something else I have trouble standing is various kinds of hip hop. I cannot point fingers since I try to stay away, if I don\'t bother them, they don\'t bother me.

As you all know, my musical taste has always developed around metal/rock. With that being an extreme variety of music my tastes followed.
When it comes to music my best advice is to stay away from \'dissing\' a whole genre, it is my belief that every genre has something, somewhere that is worth listening to. Yes, I have even found some palatable hip hop, even though those are not many in my mind.

When it comes to absolute favorites, my vote goes to Therion, a Swedish Operatic metal band. NO!, not like Nightwish. Nightwish is not, have not and will never be Operatic metal, no matter what their contractor says. Don\'t take me wrong, I love Nightwish, but theyre just as much Opera as Pavarotti is popmusic. Just because you use a schooled voice doesn\'t mean you\'re singing opera.
To emphasize what I am talking about, here\'s a couple of links:
Therion - Midgård (Youtube)
Therion - Dies Irae (Mozart interpretation - Live)(Youtube)
Therion - Second part of \'Der Tag Ist Da\' (Wagner Interpretation - Live)(Youtube)
That band is my all-time favorite.

Something that\'s well worth keeping an eye on is the fairly new German metal band Van Canto, Their line up is five singers and one drummer. Yep, they go A Capella. And theyre quite good at it if I may say so.

Van Canto - The Bards song (Blind Guardian cover)(Youtube)

Being lazy and this being before breakfast I can\'t come up with many good bands. Instead I\'ll show you a link to my Bands folder. Thats where the music I approve of ends up so hopefully you\'ll find something that suits your tastes there. I recommend them all and the list is constantly growing.

Best song EVAH

Apart from this I listen to mainly (hard) rock. I also dabble a bit in metal, and was there in the good old days with bands like Manowar and Panters - those were the days - but I have to admit that most of the new stuff just sounds like noise to me.

A couple of favourites:

Before I forget
Passive
The Smashin Pumpkins - Ava Adore
Manowar - Carry On - nostalgia at its finest :p

Stuff that doesn´t fit in the rock/metal genre but I still like is stuff like NIN, Ministry, Moby, The Dandy Warhols, The knife, Timo Maas and more stuff like it.

Last a couple of interesting danish videos:
Surfact - Absolutely Shameless
Rock Hard Power SPray - Trigger Nation - The video is HILARIOUS
Spleen United - Failure 1977 (the year I was born btw :p)
Dúné - Bloodlines

It\'s getting more and more difficult to list! :)

This week I think I\'ve listened mostly to:

Mountain Goats
Neutral Milk Hotel
Dirty Projectors
M.I.A.
Cabbageboy

I don\'t think I have a favourite genre of music, I have listened to everything from death metal to jazz but lately I\'ve discovered a lot of \"indie bands\" not sure myself even what that means as the styles vary so much. But I think that would be the best unifying label to it...

Hmmm....You know I guess I\'m just not a huge music fan anymore. I don\'t buy any albums (or download any)...I don\'t go looking to listen for songs. I just like stuff I hear.

I really like this one

Silversun Pickups:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osY3s2PDWZA

But lately whenever I\'m in my wifes car (she has \'satelitte radio\') I can\'t get enough of the 1940\'s music and Bluegrass....Good stuff!

I still think the Queensryche OPERATION MINDCRIME was the best album ever made, and never turn the radio station if Led Zeppelin, Queen, Pink Floyd, or Rush comes on....
