More from Mini\'s on a budget.

A couple of days ago, I posted about using Emery Boards for filing, and got a surprising number of both affirmative responses, and additional ideas for filing. Thanks to all who contributed to that thread.
Got a new \'low budget\' idea, which I just tried out today, and it worked great. I\'m DYING to get my camera so I can post the results and show it off.
It\'s entirely possible it\'s been done before, but...
Someone posted in another thread (I\'ve forgotten who) about how kitty litter makes for really good rocks on the bases. No argument from me. Another said clay, baked and broken. Also a great idea. But here\'s my submission to the \'rocks on the base\' idea list.
I have two budgies, and they need gravel to \'chew\' their food. The stuff in the pet store, \'Budgie Gravel\' is made up mostly of broken (crushed) sea shells and the like. Today, I spilled a wee handful of this into my palette, added a few drops of dark grey paint, and once it dried, and I chipped it all loose again... voila. Instant rocks. Budgie Gravel takes up much less space than a bag of kitty litter (the box is only a little larger than a Kraft Dinner box), and has enough in it to last a heck of a long time, for the purposes of Miniatures work.
A box of it costs about $4 Canadian.
And if you paint a mer-creature or fish of any sort... hey, they\'re already shells.

Im a firm believer in using absolutely anything on bases as long as the end result looks good.
Reminds me of Tidoco2222\'s wip post,,,,drinking straws, jewelry chains and lego on the base,,,fantastic.

Naukhel, you\'re just full of these low budget ideas. I agree with Klute, I\'ll use anything on bases, as long as I know how I\'m going to pant it.

Yes, I\'m full of low budget ideas. Maybe I ought to just write an article, instead of all these posts? Ha.
I have these ideas because I have a low budget. If I had a theme song, it\'d be \'Low Budget\' by The Kinks. :/
Just wait until you see my next low-budget idea... Week old coffee as flesh-wash... Not only does it look great, but if you breathe deeply around the mini, it wakes you up....
