More GW madness?...

Just saw a thread on The Miniatures Page that Dreamfoge Games was pretty inactive at the moment and that their range of gaming figures had been reduced to one model.

http://www.dreamforge-games.com/id30.html

Until recently Dreamforge had been producing and selling gaming \"miniatures\" that looked like this:

BlockheadMain35.jpg

CrusaderMain35.jpg

Crusader735.jpg

The \"minis\", 605 mm in height, were designed to be used in Dreamforge\'s gaming system, called Rusted Faith, a game of leviathan warcraft combat. The resin figs were pretty expensive (about 525-575 USD a piece), but, according to accounts from those who purchased, of a very high quality.

Well, the figs aren\'t available any more, with no mention of them any longer on the Dreamforge website.

Looks like someone pulled the plug on them, too. What with this and the plug-pulling on UltraForge, looks like a bad trend is forming.

Ummm... those titan things are very similar to GW\'s imagery and the head is a blatant rip off of a GW titan!

Can\'t complain if they were sailing close to the edge with their design!!!

Hmmmm...

The \'bad trend\' has been forming since about 1997....

Those Dreamforge minis were always controversial. You either loved them or hated them. Most folk seemed to hate them...

I thought they were quite cool, but out of my price range for such artifacts.

I don\'t know if GW \'pulled the plug\' on them, but it would have been difficult to make it stick. Big MF robots existed long before GW started marketing them...

I just suspect that the Dreamforge stuff was non-viable and they went under. Shame, I would have bought one if it had been cheaper:D

I thought they were very cool too.

I figured they had only sold 1 of those, but since Finn said he couldn\'t afford one, maybe I should rethink my estimate.

Wouldn\'t argue with you for a second..

And that\'s unusual!!!:bouncy:

They (Dreamforge) were never gonna last long however, GW didn\'t need to do a thing.

BTW.... GW\'s Orcs, elves etc are very much like Tolkien\'s Orcs, elves ....etc etc.

I just don\'t want to promote the myth that GW started all this....the robbing bastards...:bouncy:

Perhaps it doesn\'t matter much that Dreamforge had their own gaming system to play these figures, but they did. These aren\'t 6mm scale minis to play Epic and no experimental rules exist for playing Imperator titans (the only bmf GW robot that\'d be comparable to these babes) in 40K.

Iconography...towers and walls have existed for ages and bmf robots for decades. Even if comparisons can be drawn, there should be room enough for both systems to coexist.

It\'s really funny that the figures have been withdrawn without comment. I\'d figure that nay manufacturer who withdrew their flagship models due to lack of sales would at least comment before deep-sixing the figs. Something fishy definitely going on here.

I\'da bought both of them if I could\'ve afforded it. Loved \'em... Should build one from scratch...without infringings any copyrights, of course!..lollol

GW can\'t copyright what\'s basically a medieval helmet FFS!

GW get away with murder as far as IP is concerned anyway. They have plundered their imagery from anywhere they could - Star Wars, Aliens, Brian Froud, Terminator, Judge Dredd, Manga/anime.... They have looted popular movies and imagery ruthlessly!

A quote from their forum:
\"Greetings all; You are correct, the Leviathan Crusader and Mortis are no longer available and will not be available in the future.

Another company filed a complaint in regards to these kits and the production issues involved with these kits forced us to remove them from our product line. I know many of you were looking forward to using them in your games but we will unfortunately be unable to supply them.

We will still be releasing other kits such as the Leviathan Knight and Reaper in the future.\"

Guess GW nailed them. Bastards. I\'d be employing some shit hot 3D modelling artists, and getting some completely new ones knocked up very quickly using RPT...

Right on!

What he said..:flame:

EDIT: I am so much going to enjoy watching them spiral out of profitability/viability over the next ten years or so:D

Your right, I\'m not. In fact I cant remember the last time I bought a GW product that wasnt in the discount bin.

But seriously... There are soo many Anti-GW threads out here that basically repeat the same theme over and over again. Teh only other topic I can think of that gets as close to the same coverage is \"Why is my mini a 5\" ?

Yes, GW sucks.
Yes, GW lost track of who their customer is.
Yes, GW\'s strong-arm tactics on both brick and mortar and internet sales is an issue for concern
Yes, GW\'s defense of their IP borders on insanity.
And...
Yes, GW is losing money hand over fist if you read any of the financial reports.

But how about we talk about something new already?
:D:p:D

But it\'s still an idea GW \'borrowed\' from someone else in the first place.

The Japanese have been into the whole \'heavy mech\' thing for yonks and that is nothing other than a \'heavy mech\'. I am sure there is someone out there who could sue GW....

In fact, I am becoming increasingly worried that a very large number of people seem to believe that GW invented everything. It\'s just not true...Come on...if LOTR hadn\'t been such a success, they would have been happy to take the credit for the whole Elf/Orc thing...
