Well the Samurai is finished, I am tempted to do some sort of mon on his chest armor though.
Wonderful work!
I\'m currently painting samurais too, and the mon on the chest can be a problem: the throat/cords guard takes a lot of space.
But they are alternatives. Did you have a look at the Ospreys, in particular the two on generals? There is a lot a possibilities. (I haven\'t made up my mind yet as I also ponder on how historical accurate I want my Perry-Samurai army to be.
Omedeto! (best wishes)

Well I could go for the standard mon of the Takeda (which is 4 diamonds) but I was thinking of basing these model on the 24 generals so I was looking into whether they had mon designs of there own. I found a few like the Sanada but I have not had any luck with the others. I also have the osprey book on Samurai heraldry but it does\'nt go into that much detail, I would have to find something more specific on the Takeda clan.
Were you planning on basing your Samurai on any particular Damiyo?

I am torn between Takeda and... the urge to invent a Daimyo of my own with his mon, colours etc  I am tempted to take inspiration from Kabuki plays too (I\'m a big Kabuki fan). Kabuki actors use their own mons when playing historical characters (they were not allowed the original ones during the Edo days).
At the moment I\'m going Takeda, but as I work a lot with a grey scale + glazings these days I can always change my mind.
I guess the important thing is to enjoy what we paint, so I might just go nuts and free :p
Tell us what you think! (outside of the fact that I\'m a nutcase, everybody knows that already:drunk:)

Well you could spend forever researching them and never actually get around to painting them if you wanted to go into that much detail. I want to base the ones i\'m doing on the Takeda but i\'m also going to use a bit of artistic licensing. Hopefully I can get around to getting some more finished though.
