Interesting topic, shame about the execution. I'm sure with a bit of effort a lot of us could find many worse covers than some on this list!
All-time lists are usually a bit rubbish but this one seems to forget its purpose midway, since Anybody Can Be Cool … But Awesome Takes Practice is just in the list to be made fun of. That's not inherently an absolutely terrible cover...

Jesus that art even makes Rob Liefield look... well, less terrible. It's like a technical, but not talent/quality, progression of the kind of things schoolboys draw in their binders.
Then again, there are oh so many fantasy & SF cook covers that bear almost NO relation to the book's plot, and are either pointlessly hallucinogenic, or pointlessly sexual. It's not even an interesting cliche any more.
Eg: this cover (for a novel just released) apparently not only fails to depict the lead character accurately, but seems to be a lazy riff on Angelina Jolie's character "Acid Burn" from the film "Hackers".

Einon: yeah... I remember those... A GIS of Chris Foss was instantly recognizable! My favourite was always Vincent DiFate, though, even when the illustration didn't have anything to do with the book. Love his work...
