Most difficult model to assemble?

What has been your most difficult model to assemble out of the box? Mine has to be Ral Partha's The Conflict. For those unaware of this classic model, it's a diorama consisting of two dragons locked together in combat. I believe there were at least two variants of this kit. The one I got was all metal, including the wings. The other one, I seem to recall had plastic wings. Unfortunately the metal version is so to heavy that I had to build up the base to support the weight. The whole model was a nightmare to put together. The the tail of one of the dragons snapped off, so I repaired it. Then it broke again when we moved house years ago. Now I am trying to repair it again, but I have had multiple breakages of the thin joins in the arm and foot. Hopefully it will all work out but if it doesn't it might end up at the tip!

What's the worst mini you have ever tried to assemble?

well for me it's either FW-TombStalker (has 60+ pieces, all can be 'posed' individually).

And another that I didn't even put together because I fear I'll mess it up: Belldandy and Holy Bell new version (I think this one is it: http://www.e2046.com/product/843 ; too many small pieces, assembly can take weeks if done properly)

Cynwall Dragon (not the Titan Dragon). The darn thing is so heavy, and needs a lot of puttying, and the blasted wings don't quite fit right ...

I assembled and painted a cynwall dragon on commission once. It is a bit tricky..

That winged hussar is a nice looking figure.

Any luck with pinning?

I'm "putting aside for now" the RAFM Dunwhich Horror miniature. I haven't pinned metal before, one of the pieces has its flat base on the *top* so fits "upside down", one of the joints is circular and should be square to better support the model, and I got two of them from RAFM's IGG crowdfunding project. :p

Thankfully, the Cthulhu mini's in their current KS crowdfunding are (almost) all single piece mini's!

Pinning is fine if you have a lot of patience and a great set of drill bits. Or, if you're lazy, you have a power tool like a Dremel Stylus. The only miniature that has ever completely ruined my drill bits is the old Chainmail D&D Black Dragon - that thing is made out of some type of solid alloy that resists drilling.

Well, actually, that could also be because I used the cheap drill bits from China.

Malifaux Mannequin.
Tiny bleeding arms which need pinning, ended up using Guitar string wire, and apparently blood makes super glue set INSTANTLY.

This one? http://www.kats-korner-uk.com/dragons_black.html

I seem to recall I had a lot of problems with him due to being a poor cast and as you say, the metal is very hard.

FW Eldar revenant titan. Each leg comes in 6 parts, the legs are joined at the hip attachment, and the whole shebang has to be pinned in place all at the same time if you want to have any chance of the pose a) looking natural and b) not causing it to fall over.

Most difficult thing I've ever had to assemble was a scale dinosaur made of Legos in the 5th grade. There is no "undo" option when one assembles Legos so you either do or do not do, there is no try :p

The old metal thunderhawk. Needed pinning everywhere. Lots of places lacked the space to pin and the "straight" sections weren't straight.

Well, I am delighted to say that I have fought and won with The Conflict, so it will not be going to the tip, but to the display cabinet instead. :)
